200 baht for an LED is not over expensive...yes you can get cheapo no name stuff but they might not last very long or overheat and catch fire...or you might get lucky and they last a good while really is pot luck.

You then also have to figure the cost of electricution and falling off a ladder installing the thing. 🤕

Why don't you just go to buy light bulbs by yourself and change them? But as Johng metioned the quoted price is not so expensive. This has nothing to do with greed, you seem to be

overly price sensitive.

The OP mentioned the cost of CHANGING the light by juristic, never mentioned if it included the light fixture.

At my condo, they charge 50 baht for changing only, reasonable, IMO.

Free for changing.

But you must supply the part.

Can give a tip if you wish.

I try to do all repairs myself, free Labour does not always equal quality outcome.

I think a lot of ex-pats come here and they start counting in Thai baht. I find it helpful sometimes to count in dollars, if the condo was charging me $6 to replace a light bulb, I would consider that a bargain. Especially considering the fact that more than half of that cost is the bulb itself.

200b for install only - takes the technician at most 3 minutes to replace one.

50b seems reasonable.

200b install only.  Bulbs purchases separately by the tenant, think I paid 159b.

My feeling is that my condo does this for free as they want to discourage people who don't know what they're doing from doing it themselves. Perhaps as a safety issue.

Yeah, that´s the big problem here. Too many stay a couple of years, and suddenly fall in to the Thai baht trap. Everything becomes expensive as the numbers sounds soo high. The complaining starts, and the money counting, getting scared if have enough to stay and live. It´s actually a very sad story. Like 6 USD as you say, and take away 3. Then you have the terrible price of a small chang beer out one night. Laughable!

That is not just a bulb, it is a whole light fitting, they need to cut the power, remove the old and connect the new ones. 800bt is cheap

Its not just changing a normal bulb

no need to cut the power, just turn the light switch off.  Takes the technician a few minutes, at most.  Not cheap but I suppose it’s all relative.

After being told 200b per, I will - not going to entertain pure greed in this instance.

And, this condo has a reputation for room lighting issues so its nothing more than a opportunistic money grab.

That is your choice to buy a LED bulb or not but it isn't expensive for such a bulb and they do last considerably longer than the filament type.

Please don't suggest this, it is irresponsible as the fitting can still be live.

Shut the power off first if you DIY, or pay the money for someone else's risk.

Why count in a foreign currency?  Especially Dollars or Euros or Pounds Sterling . That doesn't help at all. Compare it to the price of a beer perhaps or a plate of food.

Buy and install the bulb yourself, it isn't rocket science.

That works because dollars work in US and you are actually in US.

You think in dollars. You've never been able to make the jump to value things in baht. I'm not saying it's not effective in some cases - it's just you lack the experience to understand the value of the currency no matter where you live and how long you claim to have lived in Thailand.

A person living here should be able to value everything from a grilled mackerel to a houseplant.

In this case, instead of complaining here a quick check on Lazada for this tourist should have sufficed.

Exactly . Just stupid

I don't worry about the cost of such things. I am concerned about the QUALITY of the bulb and usually get 2 because I reckon if one bulb has just blown then another bulb will blow too; pretty soon.

It's a perspective thing it sometimes helps to give me perspective on how inexpensive something truly is here.

We all have different devices that we use on a daily basis and just think of how boring the world would be if we were all thought the same.
