Suspect texted 'I may be dead shortly,' his roommate says

David Carlson said he doesn't think anyone who knew Vance Boelter could believe he is wanted by authorities on suspicion of the attacks.

"I don't know why he did what he did," Carlson told NBC affiliate KARE of Minneapolis. "It's just it's not Vance. ... He had lots of friends, trust me, and I wish I could have been there to stop him."

Boelter was a supporter of President Donald Trump, KARE reported Carlson as saying. Carlson said he wasn't aware of his friend's stance on local politicians, according to the station. [emphasis added]

The shootings appeared to be a 'political assassination'

"Amid rising threats of political violence in the US, Democratic governor Tim Walz was quick to identify the shootings as politically motivated. The fact that both targeted state politicians, and that police soon found a “manifesto” in the shooter’s car, seemed to support that definition. [emphasis added]

...

The suspect's motivations were politically charged and included anti-abortion sentiments

In documents, Boelter listed his political affiliation as “none or other”, according to the New York Times, and later as “no party preference”.

He had a list of around 70 other targets, including lawmakers such as US senator Tina Smith, a Democrat, as well as community leaders, doctors and Planned Parenthood sites. [emphasis added]

His roommate and best friend David Carlson told media outlets that Boelter was a devout Christian and staunchly anti-abortion. He said Boelter texted him that he would be dead shortly. He claimed Boelter was a strong supporter of Donald Trump. [emphasis added]

Minnesota Suspect Served on State Board With One of the Victims

The suspect, Vance Boelter, was appointed more than once to the Workforce Development Board, where he served with State Senator John A. Hoffman, who was shot on Saturday.

June 14, 2025

...

The suspect identified by the authorities, Vance Boelter, 57, was appointed several times by Minnesota governors to the Workforce Development Board, where he served with State Senator John A. Hoffman, who was shot and survived.

...

A state report in 2016 listed Mr. Boelter’s political affiliation as “none or other,” and another report in 2020 listed him as having “no party preference.” Voters do not declare political affiliation when they register in Minnesota.

...

U.S. Senator Tina Smith, Democrat of Minnesota, said in an interview that the gunman had a list that included her name and the names of other lawmakers, all of whom were Democrats. The list included about 70 potential targets, a federal law enforcement official said, including doctors, community and business leaders, and locations for Planned Parenthood and other health care centers. Some of the targets were in neighboring states. [emphasis added]

Further from the NY Times on the shootings suspect:

"Mr. Boelter worked at a funeral home, owned guns and had voted for President Trump last year, he said. [emphasis added]

...

Mr. Carlson said Mr. Boelter is a Christian who strongly opposed abortion. He had never mentioned either of the lawmakers who were shot, Mr. Carlson said, and had generally avoided talking about politics. He said Mr. Boelter had been experiencing financial and mental health challenges. [emphasis added]

Mr. Boelter and his wife run a private security company in Minnesota, according to its website. The company, Praetorian Guard Security Services, lists Mr. Boelter as the director of security patrols and his wife as the president. The firm’s website describes using Ford Explorer S.U.V.s, “the same make and model of vehicles that many police departments use.” [poster comment: which was the same type of vehicle found abandoned at the scene of one of shootings after the suspect fled]

So Christians are bad due to this guy? The majority of murderers in the US are black or latino and support the Dems.

Why don't you start a topic on that? Because you can't handle the truth.

Still waiting for any of the Trumpers who have finally showed up here to express any outrage at what clearly was a politically motivated assassination, as the governor has publicly called it.

Where's all the venting about domestic terrorists and murders and violent crime?  Where's any of you saying if this guy is found guilty, he ought to be put away for a LONG time or worse?

Nope, all you can do is complain about the reported facts that the alleged shooter is:

--a Trump supporter

--a rabid anti-abortionist

--a conservative Christian

--a gun owner

etc etc etc.

FWIW, it's looking like his main motivation here was rooted in his anti-abortion zeal, which makes him 100% a domestic terrorist.

He looks gay

The fact that he is married with multiple children, along with the news reporting below on his public expressions would suggest not, per the New York Times reporting on the suspect:

"I.R.S. tax forms show that Mr. Boelter and his wife once led a Christian nonprofit called Revoformation Ministries. An archived version of the group’s website described Mr. Boelter as becoming an ordained minister in 1993.

...

Mr. Boelter has delivered several sermons at a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a video of one that was posted online, he appeared to criticize gay and transgender people. [emphasis added]

“There’s people, especially in America, they don’t know what sex they are,” he said. “They don’t know their sexual orientation, they’re confused. The enemy has gotten so far into their mind and their soul.”

Fits more into his conservative Christian ideology.

CNN? What a clown show, your citing them and expect to be believed

As I said above, a predictable response, considering the poster source....

Not to mention, all the details reported above by CNN have been confirmed by other news agency reporting as shown in the ensuing news source updates.

Just can't bring themselves to condemn a pretty clear case of politically motivated domestic terrorism... because it's coming from THEIR side of the aisle. SAD!

What is really disgusting is old white males who think it's their business to tell women what they can and cannot do. There are more of them on the Right... they tend to be authoritarian and judgemental.

Media outlets such as CNN and MSNBC are highly powerful corporate actors. Their behavior can generate immense consequences for society. When they engage in journalistically deceitful or unethical practices, or when they report consequential claims that are lies.
