Report Three Nigerian Nationals Arrested in Phuket for Overstaying

Phuket Immigration officers have arrested three Nigerian men for overstaying their visas, with one exceeding his legal stay by almost seven months. This action is part of a broader crackdown on visa violations and criminal activity on the island.

 

Following orders from national police chiefs, immigration officers conducted a targeted operation to identify overstayers and foreign criminal elements. The arrested individuals include 30-year-old Jude, who overstayed by two days; 47-year-old Chukwuemeka, overstaying by 137 days; and 34-year-old Onyekachi, who stayed 196 days beyond his visa.

 

Each of the men faces charges under immigration law and has been handed over to investigators for further proceedings. This operation supports a wider campaign targeting violations of the Immigration Act, the Foreign Workers’ Employment Act, and the Foreign Business Act, with an eye on uncovering organised criminal networks.

 

Phuket Immigration authorities emphasised that the initiative is about protecting the island’s reputation as a safe tourist destination, ensuring safety for both visitors and residents.

They have such a place (Suan Phlu) AKA Bangkok Immigration Detention Centre, where one can stay for years.

That would seem a cash fine, hardly grounds for deportation or prison.

From the article it appears that it is easier to get rid of petty criminals on visa violations than to go through a lengthy and costly police investigation. Nothing really to do with them forgeting to renew/extend their visas (smile) but more with what they are actually doing here.

Yeah, agree.  Wonder how long the overstay would have been if not caught though.  I don't know of course, but I suspect he wasn't going to do a border run or take a trip down the local immigration office for an extension.

You would think their visa requests would be closely scrutinized given their abysmal record in Thailand with respect to crime and overstays.

Definitely just a misunderstanding!

All three are upstanding members of the Nigerian Royal Family, and just waiting for their inheritances to clear a simple probate procedure.

Perhaps if we all send them a few thousand $US each, it will help them get their money, and they will reward us with a chunk of their money!

Yet hundreds of thousands of foreigners have earned their living  & retirement and continue to work in africa, majority being in Nigeria for higher wages and favorable leave ratio
