I'm somewhat confused as to why two colored hearts are needed. Do they have different meanings?

Maybe for those folks 'feeling a bit blue today' ?

Here on AN there are two colors,  red and blue. I just figured the answer to be easy.

No there isn't a blue! It's actually white with a blue background 😀

IMO blue heart isn’t needed as there’s a thumbs up for a like as well as a +1. Red heart clearly signifies love. They should probably all be shelved bar a like, a thanks and a laugh. Thumbs down is overused and abused.
