In Hoi An, a 21-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in a late-night shootout that shattered the tranquillity of the historic town. Nguyen Tan Dung was found guilty of attempted murder after discharging a lead-pellet air rifle during a violent altercation on a residential street.

The Quang Nam Provincial People's Court issued the verdict after an incident that left neighbourhood residents shaken. Six others received sentences ranging from two to three years for disturbing public order, stemming from a premeditated conflict over debt.

The confrontation began on the night of June 4, 2024, when both parties planned to resolve their dispute near Cam Kim Bridge. Dung arrived armed with a homemade knife but left when the opposing group did not show.

Later, the rivals tracked him to a house in Cam Chau Ward, arriving with weapons including a rubber-bullet gun and swords. After confirming Dung's location, they stormed the property.

Dung responded by firing an air rifle as the attackers advanced. Though no injuries occurred, the chaos prompted the assailants to flee, only to return shortly, escalating the clash with more violence.

The altercation concluded without casualties but instilled fear in the usually serene area, highlighting the impact of personal disputes turning into public disturbances.
