Thread gave me the final kick to register for TrueMoney.

I found the process fairly straightforward. Scanning passport a couple of times until they and me were satisfied.

Job selection is indeed lacking (foreign) retired.

I am an unemployed houseman now waiting for feedback.

Hopefully not forever 🤣

You can get a prepaid or virtual card or a secured physical card by pledging a deposit. Not perfect but very useful.

I'm like the OP, retired, use my Bangkok Bank debit card to pay for Lazada/AliExpress.  I have never used a card to pay for goods in a bricks and mortar shop, nor ever been asked to pay other than with cash....

They will be fed up when they get to their office this morning.  A flurry of foreign applications waiting for them.  Likely they will add "Aseannow" as an occupation.

I use my CC for online purchases but other than that, cash 100%

I have no banking/wallet/QR code thingos/payment apps/etc  on any of my devices.

It does seem the be the coffee/donut/waffle huts (and of course many Starbucks) which are cashless.

 

Most, if not all, of the various outlets in our village have QR codes to pay, they all still accept cash.

I recently successfully registered for TrueMoney Wallet and it was approved after a few days. If you have a long term visa and send them a scan of it, you can also unlock all features like sending the funds to bank accounts as well. The Virtual Mastercard is very useful.

I thought it would be great for using Grab without any foreign CC uplift.

A bit off topic, but do you know that you can get a  Major Cineplex Next Card at the counter in Major Cineplex that you can top up at the ticket desk. it gives discount on tickets, and you can use to pay for tickets at the touch screen machines.

Yep, I only found out that those clowns no longer accept cash when I tried to pay for an Americano with a 1,000 THB note while awaiting the results of a blood test at a local hospital a couple of days ago. It therefore came as a huge relief to be informed by the doctor I subsequently saw that I should give up drinking caffeine-laden Americanos because of my medical condition. As a result, I won't need to do business with this rabble ever again in any event!😛
