Nail firmly hit on head, the big players will have flexed a bit of muscle with the politicians, big upside for them is maybe a few independent outlets will fold forcing prices up.

Maybe we will end up with just  a few government approved strains, anybody fancy "chang weed" , "leo weed" or "singa weed ? thought not. Anyway unlike the alcoholics I doubt pot heads will settle for that depressing scenario

Reassuringly expensive as the StelIa Artois advert used to say      I  seem to be spending as much on rolling papers as I do on weed !  Never really liked bongs,

Anyway I now have 6 different strains to evaluate before my next purchase so I'd better get to it. Its hard work but it has to be done lol

More information from a shop that I am familiar with (Thai translation of their message into English): "I was just informed that the government is now giving 2 months until August 31st for people to prepare for the changes. Customers must bring their herbal prescription card going forward to buy at the store. Right now, just your ID card is enough to purchase cannabis, if it is not yet convenient for you to go and get your herbal prescription card."

There is information below that they also shared from a clinic that is offering the Medical Marijuana Use card. Apparently the cost is 500 Baht for the card, plus a 200 Baht fee for the prescription. Total is 700 Baht. The card is valid for one year, but the 200 Baht prescription is only valid for one month and needs to be renewed once it expires after 30 days. But if you don't plan to buy cannabis every month then you only need to renew the prescription whenever you plan to buy more cannabis. The clinic below will also issue the prescription renewals online I believe so that a visit to the clinic is not required to renew the monthly prescription. Apparently they will also issue a card and prescription to anyone that states that they have sleeping disorders.

Got to love the Thais. The ink barely wet on all these weighty documents and already they're on it. I think it'll balance out OK. The med cert 'fee' brings more money into the economy.

To have it less in your face for those just going about their business with the smell and fumes in public is surely better than it is now? After all it's not Thais you see anywhere blowing their smoke with no consideration for non smokers, children etc either is it?

Western tourists blew it basically.

"a lot of Thai people have invested a lot of money in this."

Exactly, and obviously some who have invested a huge amount have some influence. It's not just subsistence farmers and small shop single owners. It's obvious some very big investors got stuck right in and they won't be letting that all go down the drain.

Apparently dispensary owners have been advised by officials that they have to follow new prescription regulations if they want to continue operating.

In my area all the dispensaries (about 7) have been closed since the first announcement last week.

How do you find out which doctors to go to in your area?, is there a list, or will any doctor sign the prescription?

How many high-tech labs do you think the local police have to isolate and measure this one chemical in relationship to the total gross weight? I'm going to guess zero. However, this being Thailand, they arrest you for the crime and YOU have to prove it was .2%.

“For diseases or groups of symptoms, originally 15 symptoms were specified, but now they have been removed because they may overlap with each profession. Each professional group is left to specify symptoms, which must follow the guidelines of their profession. Currently, there are 2 professions that have guidelines: the Medical Council, which has had them for the past 2 years, and the Thai traditional medicine profession. As for the other 5 professions, they are in the process of creating guidelines. If they are not finished, they still cannot be implemented,” said Dr. Somruk.

When asked about the case of medical cannabis in modern medicine and Thai traditional medicine, what symptoms are accepted? Dr. Somruk said that if modern medicine doctors who are certified have 4 diseases: epilepsy, nausea and vomiting from cancer treatment, nerve pain, and muscle cramps, for Thai traditional medicine, there will be 8 groups of symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, pain from cancer, etc.

Only modern medicine & Thai traditional medicine doctors for now.  The other 5 professions are still creating guidelines, ie. dentists, pharmacists, Chinese medicine etc.

Appears modern medicine doctors can certify 4 diseases as mentioned above & Thai traditional medicine can certify 8 diseases as mentioned above at this stage until the other 5 professions create guidelines.

“Basically, cannabis shops must be permitted to open, which must be in accordance with medical practices. Smoking is strictly prohibited. Sales to the public or patients must be accompanied by a prescription from a specified professional. If there is none, sales are strictly prohibited. Stores must keep the prescription as evidence for the department to inspect every month. Patients should make a copy as evidence if a large amount of cannabis is found. However, in the middle of this month until the end of the month, the department will open training for modern medicine and Thai medicine doctors to provide knowledge on this issue. Currently, there are 9,000 people who have been trained since the beginning, but this time, there will be an update again,” said Dr. Somruek.

Thx, so fill out the forms you provided, and take them to the nearest doctor who will then sign them?, once signed take forms to canabis shop, correct?, so new forms for each prescription?

Yes.  But not all doctors may want to sign them yet so may have to ask around.

There was a limit of 30 grams per month but I have not seen it mentioned on the new notice.

I don't know how they will enforce the 30 grams per month.  There is no serial number on the prescriptions & no central database of prescriptions.  If each dispensary has their own doctor then each can prescribe 30 grams.

FYI

Asked about the current situation, there are concerns about the trading of cannabis prescriptions. Dr. Somruk said that there really should be no fees, but initially there was a discussion that if there is a charge during this period, it should not exceed 50-100 baht because there are rumors that the price will be as high as 500 baht, which is too expensive and would also violate professional ethics.

So are prescriptions required now or are they still granting the 30 / 60 days grace referred to previously ?

As long as the quacks display the  same sort of  professional ethics as those  demonstrated by the various presumably "top notch" professionals who signed old square faces sick note, getting a script should be easy enough,

ZZZZZZZZ ! Time to light up and just ignore all of this. That power hungry nutcase will be gone as soon as the new government comes in. Than all the lawsuits against the government like a landslide will happen they will back down more than likely and it will be as if this was just all a bad dream , just like the ever changing visa rules , taxing expats, chasing YouTube people and other forms of just creating chaos. Seriously starting to wonder what all these government people are on.

@stonersclub420

Or like this online:

As of June 27, 2025, our system has been updated to comply with new regulations published in the Royal Gazette, with additional updates made on July 1, 2025. The card is now backed by a 30-day P.T.33 compliant prescription signed by licensed doctors specializing in Thai Traditional Medicine.

That little phone call to uncle in Cambodia could prove to be the power move of the year in favor of the cannabis industry.

PRIKPOT states that they will facilitate the customer to get the required paperwork.

I read that to say, Prikpot will advise or maybe give options for the doc to go see.

interesting, IF someone there is smart, they will have access to a medical dr who will face time with patient and then issue a script online, which the consumer can print out if desired>

Thats what we had to do when we sold weight loss drugs online back in 2001-2

I don't mind this new development BUT i do not like the 30 grms/30 day limit

still anyone buying in a weed "clinic" is overpaying vs buying online

Seriously guys the current weed situation is a epic mess of confusion.

Very similar to the tax on income...

And when things become too confusing and complicated.

People tend to just ignore it all and continue on as usual..

Which is what I expect to happen with weed...

It’s not legal to use it recreationally, but it’s also not illegal, so it’s not a crime, and the police couldn’t care less right now. The anti-weed government still clinging to power is on the verge of collapse anyway. Things could flip back in favor of weed as soon as next week or the one after. Stay tuned and don’t stress. After all, this is the undisputed hub of U-turns and flip-flops.

You mean a Ball of confusion . Take a look at Dr. Doom's Facebook page . He is posting all sorts of crazy stuff like Reefer Madness. Sorry I never ran around naked stoned. I tend to eat lots of donuts and pizza afterwards. No more Pizza Company I guess.

I went and checked out Sukhumvit again late last night to see how the wind was blowing (literally) and if there is any real clamp down on weed or not.

From what I saw, all the weed shops are open as normal. Plenty of people are still smoking in the weed shops too. I could smell it everywhere on the street as well. It looks like nothing has changed.

Good to hear. I don,t feel like suddenly becoming a criminal over night because ONE person in government decides its evil. Where and when is the vote? Or did they suddenly forget that fact?

The whole Government is in disarray right now. The ruling party could fall apart very quickly. They’ve had three different prime ministers in the matter of one week. Don’t be surprised if the whole anti-weed issue melts away in the near future.
