A Malaysia Airlines passenger caused a major scare at Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport after joking he had a bomb. This incident led to a police inquiry and a fine.

On June 22, flight MH752 landed at Noi Bai International Airport from Kuala Lumpur. As passengers exited, a flight attendant noticed a male passenger carrying a black box and asked about its contents. The passenger jokingly replied, "A bomb."

Alarmed by the response, crew members immediately notified airport authorities. The man was detained by Noi Bai’s immigration police for questioning. He later clarified that his comment was intended as a joke.

Security personnel conducted a thorough search of the passenger and his belongings. The black box was found to contain only a computer keyboard and mouse. No dangerous items were detected.

Despite the absence of a real threat, the Northern Airports Authority imposed a fine of VND4 million (approximately $153) on the passenger for causing public panic.

Airport officials noted that the situation could have been far more chaotic had the comment been made earlier, before takeoff. An emergency operations officer stated that such a remark during boarding would have halted security checks, delayed flights, and disrupted terminal operations.
