A black panther was recently spotted near a butterfly-watching area at Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi. This rare sighting underscores the park's rich biodiversity, as butterfly season concludes, according to Park Chief Mongkhon Chaiphakdee.

Mongkhon shared photos of the panther, expressing delight at this indication of a thriving ecosystem, where rare wildlife finds refuge.

Visitors frequent the park during this season to marvel at the diverse butterfly species. Meanwhile, park rangers maintain active patrols to safeguard against deforestation and encroachment, ensuring a safe habitat for all species.

Authorities advise the public to follow safety guidelines when encountering wildlife:

  • Maintain a safe distance, stopping vehicles at least 30 metres away.
  • Avoid loud noises.
  • Refrain from feeding wild animals to prevent unpredictable behaviour.

This commitment to conservation highlights the park's success in providing a sanctuary for rare and diverse wildlife.

Oh what a beautiful creature.    Just love big cats. Hope it and its mates survive but not injure anyone.

I’m not sure I believe this. Are panthers in Thailand a thing? Never heard of it before

Is Phemchai held in remand at the moment...

There are tigers being spotted near Kanchanaburi........take the train ride there and see how dense and plush the place is.

I used to work near there 30 km away....heading southwest.

Vegetarians don't eat fish head soup

Put Premchai in shackles please ........ he apparently has a certain history on this particular subject

Melanism occurs in 13 of 37 species of big cats.  In Thailand the Jungle Cat and the Golden Cat may exhibit melanism.

Side Note: Garry Mantz and I were driving a 'bread truck' on the East Range at Fort Huachuca (Wah-Choo-Kah), Arizona when we encountered a large black cat.  Nose to tail was about five feet.  It did not have the muscular build of a jaguar.  It had the look to us of a mountain lion.  We were soon to set up our radio antennas.  This was a classified jamming test so no cameras, not even a cell (mobile) phone.  Southern Arizona does get visits by jaguars coming out of Mexico.  The adjacent town of Sierra Vista in Cochise County is on the U.S.-Mexico border.  This was in 2005.
