when you are fluent in Thai and go to school here, then i'll take the question seriously.

I just saw a Russian screaming about something in Pattaya a 2 a.m.   Time for a new thread?

Do you expect any less from a Russian?

A good description of many Westerners

Not at the gyms I have been to in LOS.  Most foreigners (except for the Chinese visitors) actually come in for a focused workout. No time for sending emojis or taking selfies.

What other people do with their time seems to bother you and makes you feel insecure, where are you from anyway, Australia by any chance?

Well at the gym it seems like many do the following:

1) Look at themselves in the mirror  at least once every 5 minutes

2) Take a selfie and then more selfies

3)  After walking on the threadmill like a grandma for 10 minutes  they act like they had just run a marathon

4)  Not wipe down gym equipment after use. But actually why would they need to wipe it down because they do not sweat.  It takes some level of intensity to perspire while working out.

5) Sit on gym equipment while looking at their phones while others are politely waiting. I thought going to the gym was to get a workout and not working out their phones.

6) Obviously this type of behavior does not apply to all Thai men but I have witnessed it many times during the years.

Or I am the weird one because I leave my phone in the locker.  The gyms I belonged to in the  US prohibited phones on the gym floor. Oh heck in the eyes of most Thai people I am weird one.

I doubt this kind of behavior would be tolerated at a Muay Thai dojo but the mid to high level gyms I have worked out at this is rather common amongst Thai men.

Most folks have their music on phones so there's that. I belong to a higher end gym so don't witness what you do.

I understand the immaturity shown here by locals, quick to attack and use weapons readily, but what you've described I've also seen in US gyms for the 44 years I trained in them. Many if not most who go to gyms spend more time on their phones than training. Some think they own the gym and must move aside when they want to use equipment, not understanding they're just another member who has equal rights.

I don't think western men are much better.

When I was a kid, my older siblings bullied me.

Now, it's not bullying, but there's always a whiff of one-upmanship.

Which to me is a sign of arrested development.

So most human beings have arrested development.

Many are growing up with no fathers in the household, or ones that don't teach their children respect for life. Bullies come from bullies. One upmanships are different. Normal competition in a household comes from jealousy that is normal growing up, kids thinking their parents love the other more. This happens all over the world but more in places where fathers aren't available and aren't held accountable for children they make. Children join gangs because they don't have a good dad to teach them how to relate to others without violence or control. They look up to other children who are bigger or tougher and mirror their behavior. Children grow up here too fast because of these missing dads, and you can see what happens in the daily news, how they attack others 5-10 against one, using weapons and kicking while down. No respect for life.

You voted in a president that many outside the US are wondering about his emotional maturity?

Twice.

Haven’t you got kids with different women none of who you live with in different continents?

How could you possibly be available to them?

Love your lack of self awareness Fred.
It is cute.

The problem is not Thailand-specific.

People will behave as they wish regardless of location.

People are like animals. They behave according to local environment. Most Thais are friendly due to Buddhism. Most farangs are angry due to atheism, war mongering explorer culture and feeling superior to other races. Westerners spent 300 years as explorers. They are racist war mongers.

Sounds like a self absorbed Western prima-donna to me. Thais don't go to gyms, they go to work.

You are describing most gyms.

My friends go to gyms. They also do not smoke, or use drugs.

Missing from what? My children in the US are adults, with families and careers. Thailand is also a land of almost daily mass shootings.

Did the Thai books you read discuss this?
