Senate Petitioned for Impeachment of Culture Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra

Today, the Senate received a petition to file a new impeachment lawsuit against Paetongtarn Shinawatra, newly appointed as Culture Minister, amid ongoing legal challenges. This move follows a Constitutional Court order suspending her from prime ministerial duties due to alleged ethical breaches during a Thai-Cambodian border conflict.

Political activist Tul Sitthisomwong lodged the petition, seeking Paetongtarn's removal from the ministerial post, with hopes that one-tenth of the 200 senators will forward it to the Constitutional Court.

The suspension came after a controversy involving a leaked phone call with Cambodian leader Hun Sen, leading to accusations of unethical conduct. Paetongtarn, daughter of Pheu Thai figurehead Thaksin Shinawatra, faces a court ruling anticipated in the coming months.

Despite her suspension, Paetongtarn aims to promote Thailand’s cultural influence globally in her new ministerial role. However, Tul insists she should not assume any ministerial duties until the court reaches a verdict.

Previously, 36 senators initiated an impeachment process against Paetongtarn, resulting in her current suspension. Meanwhile, her father, Thaksin, attended court today regarding a lèse-majesté case linked to remarks made about the monarchy during a 2015 interview.

This lawsuit, related to comments on the monarchy's alleged involvement in the 2006 coup, could endure due to the possibility of appeals, with Thaksin denying all accusations.

Additionally, Thaksin is dealing with another legal issue, accused of feigning illness to evade a prison sentence following an in-absentia conviction. This complex legal landscape continues to impact the Pheu Thai political scene and its leadership.

A two-tier justice system?

The court suspended Gen Prayut as PM but he retained his role and duties as Defense Minister.

Biding his time

Perhaps it is time that the entire senate, the CC and the EC were impeached.

But who will replace her, there's no-one really qualified, just get another fool, leading a government of yes men fools, no-one has the balls to stand up and challenge any policies that actually are of no benefit to Thailand.

From the unless idiots currently in charge, who cares about any benefits for Thailand when they are only concerned about their own benefits.
