In a sweeping move, Vietnam's Ministry of Health has mandated a nationwide recall of Désembre Derma Science High Frequency Cream Professional. This follows the discovery that the product’s formula and advertised benefits did not align with its registered documentation.

Following a May 19 inspection, Vietnam's Drug Administration revealed significant discrepancies at Hyunjin C&T International Co., Ltd. in Hanoi. This domestic distributor handles the cream, which is manufactured by Hyunjin C&T Co., Ltd. in South Korea.

Authorities have instructed all businesses to cease sales and usage of the cream immediately, and to return stock to suppliers. A comprehensive recall of all batches is required, underlining the seriousness of the violation.

Additionally, the Ministry has revoked the product's cosmetic declaration certificate and imposed a six-month ban on the distributor from registering new products. This suspension, effective from June 30, also nullifies any pending applications, necessitating fresh submissions for future sales authorisations.

Touted as a high-frequency massage cream with claims of breaking down fat, relieving muscle tension, enhancing circulation, balancing moisture, and preventing ageing, Désembre Derma Science is priced at over VND1 million (approximately 1,400 Thai Baht) per 1-kg jar online.

Experts have raised alarms about the potential dangers of products with unverified formulas. Such items may contain harmful ingredients, posing risks of side effects, irritation, allergies, long-term skin damage, or even toxic chemical absorption.

This incident is part of a broader crackdown by Vietnamese health authorities, who have recently identified several cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies violating regulations. These investigations often result in recalls and the destruction of counterfeit or substandard products to protect consumer safety.

The stringent actions reflect Vietnam's commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards in consumer products. It serves as a potent reminder of the responsibilities manufacturers and distributors bear in ensuring product integrity.

As the situation unfolds, the incident underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in the cosmetics industry, stressing vigilance and transparency to prevent misleading claims and safeguard public health.
