A viral video showing a three-wheeled electric mobility scooter driving alongside large vehicles on a busy main road has sparked widespread concern among netizens, prompting calls for clearer safety regulations.

The video was posted on the popular Facebook page “Than Pao,” showing a small electric trike, typically used by elderly individuals or those with limited mobility, bravely navigating a bustling traffic lane amidst fast-moving cars and trucks. The caption cheekily read:

“Mobility vehicles for the elderly should be used in alleys, not driven down major roads like this…”

The incident is believed to have occurred on a main thoroughfare in an unspecified urban area. The clip shows the trike weaving across lanes, drawing alarm from viewers who deemed it a disaster waiting to happen.

Online reactions were swift and anxious. Many expressed deep concern that such vehicles, which are not designed for high-speed roads or heavy traffic environments, pose a significant danger, not only to their drivers but to other road users as well.

“These vehicles aren’t equipped to handle road speeds or visibility challenges. One wrong move and it could end tragically,” one commenter wrote.

Others called for urgent intervention from local traffic and transport authorities. Suggestions included enforcing clear restrictions on where mobility trikes can be used, designating safe zones or pedestrian paths and launching public education campaigns for users.

Calls were also made to the Department of Land Transport and municipal traffic agencies to develop concrete guidelines and usage policies for low-speed electric vehicles, particularly as their popularity grows among vulnerable populations.
