Another step closer to authoritarianism in the USA.

The Wall Street Journal’s Editorial Board says President Donald Trump is using his government to intimidate news outlets that publish stories he doesn’t like.

“It’s a low move in a free country with a free press,” writes the Board. “On Tuesday … Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem suggested CNN might be prosecuted for publishing a report about an app called ICEBlock, which lets users flag locations where they’ve spotted operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.”

Thats the WSJs opinion, personally I love it. I know lots of folks who do too.

I think his issue is with fake news that caused the outbreak of irrational hatred against him. Did you see a renowned fake news outlet just got forced to pay Trump 15 million?

The Paramount settlement is more akin to extortion / bribery in order to get approval for their proposed merger. The case should never have proceeded to Court. Hopefully the case will undergo an investigation though I doubt it given the corrupt weak kneed Republicans.

FCC commissioner Anna Gomez, a Democrat, said the settlement over an entirely "meritless" lawsuit was a "desperate" move by Paramount that "casts a long shadow over the integrity of the transaction pending before the FCC" and "marks a dangerous precedent for the First Amendment". At Paramount's annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday, co-CEO George Cheeks said the company chose to settle the suit to avoid the "somewhat unpredictable cost" of mounting a legal defence and the risk of an adverse judgement that could result in "significant financial as well as reputational damage", as well as the disruption of an ongoing legal battle.

(CNN) “Paramount’s spineless decision to settle Trump’s patently unconstitutional lawsuit is an insult to the First Amendment and to the journalists and viewers of ’60 Minutes,’” the Freedom of the Press Foundation said. The group has vowed to file a shareholder’s derivative lawsuit over the settlement, meaning the litigation over the matter is not over yet.
https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/02/media/cbs-trump-60-minutes-paramount-settlement

FPF Letter to Paramount:

Dear Ms. Redstone,

I am an attorney working for the Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), which is a shareholder of Paramount Global (“Paramount”). I am writing to demand that you institute an immediate
litigation hold, as FPF plans to file a shareholder derivative lawsuit on behalf of Paramount in
the event of a settlement by Paramount of President Donald Trump’s lawsuit over CBS News’
editing of an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. ...

If the settlement’s purpose is effectively to launder a bribe through the court system, that would
remove it from the scope of the business judgment rule.

Further, any settlement payment – let alone one in the multimillion-dollar range that Paramount
is reportedly contemplating – could potentially constitute not only bribery but corporate waste.
This is because it likely will rest on a handshake deal with a president who has a long history of
allegedly disregarding both formal and informal contracts.

No matter what Paramount pays, Trump’s administration may still block the merger, continue
seeking further financial or editorial favors from Paramount, or continue attacking Paramount
and CBS through lawfare, regulatory actions, and social media posts. That very predictable
scenario would only increase the liability that yourself and other executives responsible for any
such settlement would face.

Oh great, another squeal from the basement. A totally nonsensical statement from someone who trolls the forum by throwing around words they don't even know the meaning of.

Maybe it's a cry for help. Can someone in PP help them?
