I'd like to send the maximum amount to Bangkok Bank, 2 million baht (approximately US$60,000) for property purchase.

Has anyone had any recent problems transferring large sums?  Never had a problem in the past 4-5 years, but most transfers have been US$1000-5000.

If you've sent loads previously you should be fine, I'm not sure if all BB transfers come up as International now, if not select reason buying a property or long term stay

I recently read a thread where people discussed Wise - some said good things - some not good.

They were usually good in the past - so I just used them for a 10KAUD transfer from Australia - it is going to take 2 effin days??   Time to start looking for another money exchange provider.

Which Thai bank are you with?

You sent on July 9th.

July 10 is Asalha Bucha, Thai banks closed.

You get your money July 11.

Asalha Puja Day (Asanha Puja, Asarnha Bucha, Dhamma Day) is a Buddhist festival that occurs on the full moon of the eighth lunar month, which is usually in July. The festival pays homage to the Buddha and commemorates the Buddha’s first sermon and the founding of the Buddha’s Sangha - four noble truths.

Asalha Bucha is a public holiday. It is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.

See my last note - Kringsri bank just did a transfer of 1K in under 10 mins.

Nothing to do with public holidays as today is OK and their systems are 24/7.

It could be the amount.

Maybe just my impression but most of the reported problems seem to involve funds from a US account and/or Bangkok Bank.  OP has nailed both of those perfectly.

Seems to be Bangkok Bank.  But there could be another reason.

As per the Wise web site ......

Bangkok and Kasikorn will accept anything up to 2 million Baht.

Siam will accept up to 1.5 million Baht.

The Rest are all limited to 500K Baht.

So in future, simply schedule your transfers 2 days before you need the money in your account here,    hardly rocket science

See latest posts - Krungsri accepted a transfer to day in under 10 mins.

Some of us find life is easier if you take a little effort to learn why and why not - instead of mai pen rai.

I have not had ANY problems with my Wise borderless account in over 5 years.

TBH I have no idea why a small number of posters have had problems.

That is what we are figuring out and it is clearly NOT Wise.

Bangkok says 2 days - Krungsri did it immediately.

Why? Not public holidays. Not Wise. Amount? Bank?

Not the 'Reason for Transfer' - I used the same one both times (money to family).

By the look of it - you will need it to be Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn for that amount of money.

Or perhaps several transfers at other banks - but that might 'get attention'.

Probably the amount then.

21K baht would be within the automated system transfer limits.

210K baht may require human processing/authorization.

Yep - that sounds likely.  Next time I will do a 10K transfer using Krungsri and see if that is also delayed a day or two.

For the last 6 years, every transfer from UK bank to Bkk bank took around 10 seconds.

For the past 3 months, the same amounts, sent early morning & not on any public holidays, now take 7 hours.

But then there are hiccups using the ACH system to get the money to Wise for transfer to Thailand.

Sold some funds at Fidelity for half the required amount on Monday, cleared and sent to my credit union on Tuesday.  Credit union does not put a hold on incoming ACH transfers, can send out immediately.  Only then did I learn that ACH transfers out of the credit union are limited to $5K/day.  That's disappointing.

No problem, I can pull from the credit union with my Schwab account with no limit.  Only then did I learn that although incoming ACH transfers can be used for fund purchases the following day, Schwab puts a 3-5 day hold on withdrawals by ACH.

Well, okay then.  Sold the other half at Fidelity yesterday, having Schwab pull today, can be transferred on the 15th to Wise, send 1.95 million baht to Bangkok Bank before the next public holiday on 28 July.

I have been using Wise for about 7 years. I have always made my transfers after 10 pm as my US bank's time zone is 12 hours behind. I had always received my transfers within seconds or 2 days.

Since Wise started using Plaid to link bank accounts to their platform, it now takes 5-7 days to arrive at Bangkok Bank. My bank isn't listed on the Plaid platform, so it can't be linked to Wise . My transfers now take at least 3 days for Wise to receive my money, even though my bank account shows the withdrawal was processed within the next 24 hours. After Wise receives the money, it then takes at least 2-4 more days for it to arrive at Bangkk Bank.

I have called Wise support numerous times, inquiring why it now takes longer, but they have no explanation.

You are going to the Wise website, pulling from your bank.  That requires additional processing by your bank and additional fees from Wise.

If you push from your bank to Wise, it should be faster with no Wise fee for the transfer.

Wise connected bank account fee (ACH) USD to THB:

$1,000        $1.70

$5,000        $8,49

$10,000     $16.97

$20,000     $33.94

No ACH fee if sending directly from your balance.

I send money by free ACH from Fidelity.  That is processed just after 9am New York, received by credit union within an hour or two.  My credit union batch processes ACH transfers after midnight, money reaches Wise around 8-10pm Thai time.  Send by Wise usually received at Bangkok Bank the following day by 2pm.

When first using Wise, I had the credit union as a firebreak between them and Fidelity.  Have recently tried to link Wise directly, but Fidelity does not recognize the Wise routing number.  Required to use Fidelity's 3rd party validation service which does not send OCP codes to non-US numbers.   No problem with direct link with Schwab.  That should speed up the process by skipping the credit union.

Since mid/late May, transfers from Wise to my Bangkok Bank post as 'International Transfer" and arrive around 2 PM the following day, regardless of the time the transfer was initiated. Never the same day.

Prior to that, they posted to my Bangkok Bank account as "Transfer from A/c at Other Bank" and arrived almost instantaneously.

Go figure.

The other variable is the partner bank used. I've found, checking the transaction receipt, that the ones that have been delayed 20 minutes, 2 or 3 hours, all say Tranglo as partner bank, the 'instantaneous' transfers show Kasikorn as partner.

Yes the 2pm next day is standard, but I'm not sure if reason for transfer is important anymore, what do you specify?

I've used Wise when it was Transferwise and the receiving bank was Krungsri/Yellow Bank. And it took a few days. Then I changed to Bangkok Bank which seems to be much faster a matter of days not weeks.  But recently I've noticed it gone to to 2 or 3 days which doesn't really bother me as long as it get there in the end.

What I don't like about Wise is their abysmal customer services.  If I have a large amount of money in  the "sphere" I would like to be able to talk to someone really fast and that is not the case with Wise.

This last matter is really important to me.
