There is a certain type of long-term expat in Thailand who seems to complain about just about everything, the corruption, the traffic, the bureaucracy, the air pollution, the heat, the visa system, the customer service, even about the locals. Some of these types of foreigners have been here for decades, are constantly criticizing the country, but never actually go somewhere else, or back to where they came from, even though they feel unhappy.

If a place makes someone that unhappy, why do they stay? Maybe it's a kind of quiet addiction to the chaos, or even just the comfort of complaining?

I suspect there could be some unspoken truth that, despite all the moaning, Thailand still offers a kind of freedom or simplicity they don’t feel they’d find back home and that's why they stay. Or maybe they really do want to leave, but they are simply stuck here for financial reasons.

Another original thread.  You have really outdone yourself this time.

Another complainer. Touching that you always show up with such strong wisdom. Must be exhausting keeping such close tabs on my posts. Meanwhile, the topics you create are all fantastic. Oh wait…

Solid trolling effort. Still no original thought, but your persistence is commendable. Keep trying, one day you might even post something useful or relevant.

Some folks enjoy misery, certainly they sought out the most miserable uncomfortable place they could find that included a miserable begging spouse with an awful uneducated family in an awful loud unruly village and they go on the internet and share their miserable existence with others.

Original thought ?

Like your other thread that @richard_smith237 showed is nothing more than a repeat of what's been done so many times.

Right, because the topics you create are absolute masterclasses in originality. Unless it’s about weed, you’re lucky to get 1-2 replies, sometimes none. No wonder trolling others is all you’ve got. Obsession looks rough on you.

How ironic. There is a ongoing topic about how horrible Thailand is to not sell beer on certain days.

Maybe certain folks CANT leave, ya know $$$? Loads of pricing complaints.

And complain about beer sales

You can't complain to a Thai.   Endless hours of pent-up frustration is unleashed on the poor sexpat just trying to be anonymous in Pattaya.

Nobody wants to hear about me winning the lottery unless I give them money.  How about my last business venture?  nope.  excellent fitness?  nope.   nothing positive, that's not fun.

It's either country bashing save Thailand or Thailand bashing.

At first, comedic..... but some just can't stop.

if you meet one of these people, just never talk to them again.

solved.

If you came here when the baht was 45 to the USD and you have not increased your wealth, just depositing a fixed pension, ya I can see where you feel like things are going backward from a purchasing point of view.  Also, if you came her in the 90's, heading off to tropical islands with pretty young women willing to play with you for a pittance, Thailand has grown up from there.  Now the girls are not just looking at it like play for pay, it's just now pay.   The playfulness and friendly flirting of the girls is basically gone.  The attracting more flies with honey is gone.  I miss those old days...  They were sweet and much more satisfying!

The funniest is these Scandinavian socialists who'll tell you how amazing their country is, but they don't want to live there.  They'd rather be in Thailand, lol.

Because, for the most part, they are indeed "trapped and skint."

Thailand, and a few other Asian countries, are the type of places that you just have do the "whatever" response, or you will end up nuts... a good anology is "It's like lying down in a stream and just letting the water flow over you". That doesn't mean you have to like everything or can't be critical, but it means you have to just let it go.... many people are wrapped far too tight for here, and probably too tight for where they came from for that matter, but had expectations it would be different.

One thing many people struggle with is unrealistic expectations and a difficulty to accept difference in culture... some can hack it, some can't. To have longevity here, you need open mindedness, tolerance, acceptance, willingness to learn and latitude on a whole bunch of stuff, and many people simply don't have that, as they are a product of the western self-centered "Me" culture and my rights etc. South East Asia is great for many, but not all, and it all depends on you and your mindset. However, nothing new here for those that have resided here a long time and endured.

The ignore option works partially. I used it in respect to another name who posts  idiotic topics that most people ignore. The deficiency is that the  replies to the topic still appear. However, the option still allows avoidance.

Bobs threads make the forum better

If true it would indicate that the forum is in a very low state, which I do not believe!

I suggest that It's (and others) irrelevant and idiotic fictional rambling posts should be posted in a new section called "fiction" where it can be duly ignored as required!

I complained about the UK when I was living there, and I will complain all I like about the ridiculous aspects of living here.

You imply that you do not now live there (UK) so why "complain all I like about the ridiculous aspects of living here" on a Asian thread?
