Do Foreign Men Often Move to Thailand Because They Can’t Get Women Back Home?

Featured Replies

Is it true that foreign men often move to Thailand because they “can’t get women” in their own countries? Whether it’s due to age, appearance, income, personality, or just bad luck, it seems some might come here to reset that playing field.

If that’s the case, one might view these men as taking advantage of economic inequality or social dynamics. Others might say it’s a win-win, two adults finding mutual benefit in a relationship.

And then there’s the question no one really asks out loud: even if they could date back home in the West, would they even want to? Or do many men now simply prefer being with an Asian partner and living in Asia instead?

Most of the younger ones do, they come here to get a job as well because where they’re from nobody will hire them.

I very much doubt I could get a woman 23 years younger than me in my home country, unless I was very wealthy.

Don't forget please, there are also foreign men who move to Thailand with their foreign woman.

Next to me I know 3 other couples.

It seems strange to me that everybody thinks men come down here to get a thai women...

I came to Thailand for a great job 30 years ago. When the job ended, I stayed, mostly for the women, but also for the relatively low-cost, comfortable lifestyle. I am able to get a lot of bang for my buck here, in both senses of the word.

I also moved to Thailand with my foreign wife. Delightful culture shock for both of us! Quite happy with the choice!

The phrases "women in their own country" and "taking advantage of economic inequality" have to be contextualized.  My alternative to my future Thai wife who is 40 years my junior was a Peruvian waitress, 41 years my junior, in my home country, the U.S.A.  And as a modestly comfortable retired teacher, there are many wealthy women in my own country who wouldn't give me the wrong time of day.

Not sure.   Some want to cheat on their wives.  Some want to cheat on their gf's.  Some want the ladyboy.  Some want no commitment at all.  Some are obese.  Some are very old.   Some are not hansum.  Some are dying.  Some are criminals.  Some come to lose their V.  Some come to party and whatever.  Some like to pay.

The sexpat of course is here for the sex, but then they better have a solid ATM for the long haul.

A group of women paid for me to come and stay in Thailand.  I'm just a gigolo, and everywhere I go..........

Anyone can get women with money.  Anyone.   So they must have no money back home.

Okay, the women are a big positive, but there's more to it than that. Many guys just want to leave their past behind and reinvent themselves or try to build an alternative or new life, try again... which I don't see why that is wrong, fair play.

There is also the stretching your money more in a place that is generally safe with a great climate that pretty much leaves you alone as long as you are not a Richard (although Thailand is becoming increasingly expsensive).

Also, many western countries are becoming increasingly, well, problematic to live in with all the immigration, sky-high taxes, lack of social cohesion etc., and quite frankly anti-older people sentiment... the young are slowly starting to dislike older people because they worked, saved, and control everything, with the kiddies wanting everything now without working for it.

I got out long ago as I saw the writing on the wall, but I totally agree with anyone who has had enough and wants to reinvent their life somewhere else like this... just have to realise that nowhere is perfect and Thailand has its caveats too, plus you need a mindset that has latitude and tolerance, but also a little suspicious as scams are everywhere. Horses for courses obviously, but the petty bureaucracy and anal paperwork is annoying as Thailand moves on a sea of paper and information, which is a big turn-off imo.

A lot of foreign men move to Thailand at least partly because the only women that they have a chance of being with back home are women their own age. Why would you want to be with a bossy, nosy, difficult 65 or 70 year old woman, if you do not have to? No thanks. Life is too short for that.

There is absolutely some truth in that comment SM... even if other stuff caps it off.

Yes. The women at "home" are feminazis. And don't deserve our time, money or attention.

There are a LOT of men that come here because they have no game and this is like shooting fish out of a barrel.
Just a random made up number but I'd bet 60% of these guys have never been with a woman before this

I came to East Asia for adventure. The women were secondary. I'd written off marriage by early 30s. Had vasectomy at 35. Said goodbye entirely to USA save for visits by 40. Very ok with traveling far afield and in my own company. At 49 I met my now wife she at 32. Pushing 49 she could pass for < 40 especially stateside. By and large she's been great. Few to no complaints. A stellar human being.

I like the fact so many beautiful women floating about Bangkok. It makes me feel younger especially if I can get them to flirt a bit. I'd feel dead inside married to some 65yo yapping cow farang or Thai.

I'm lucky, but at 50 and never married I wasn't exactly rushing into anything. I married her bc it was the right thing to do. I could have just stayed on with the retirement visa

For the record I'm guessing my body count is 1000+ and I've been loyal to my wife past 15 years. So ...14 to 49.

It does make you wonder what the 50 year old pre-menopausal mum's are after......true love I guess.

If you accept anything that floats along then you are correct, but I big to differ. Thai women are ok being single and most might marry misery to a Thai they wouldn't with a farang.

Thai women are clever, saavy and the city girlies sophisticated. Their beauty competes with Japan, Korea and China

Now, the Philippines is shooting fish in a barrel. Zero standards. Guys living in Phils have no game. If I was living there I'd have two live in gf bc why not?
