Have you started dealing with Health insurance again through your Thai offices? My old health insurance policy was through AA but I cancelled it once it was transferred to an Indian office.

Health insurance is available either online or from the 3 AA offices - Pattaya / HH / Phuket

Bike voluntary insurance - Bail Bond.

I've had bikes for all of my time in Thailand. No insurance claims have been made at any time in my 16 years here on any of my bike insurance policies. No accidents at all. No speeding fines - nothing. Maximum NCB was gained on all vehicles.

For one of my bikes, from 2017/18 to 19/20, BB was 300k฿. It rose on renewal to 1.5m฿ (+400%) for 20/21 to 22/23. All with same insurer, MSIG. In other respects, premiums were good.

In 21/22 bought another bike and sold the old one in 22/23.

The new bike's BB started at 610k฿ in 21/22 and rose to 1.08m฿ (+77%) in 25/26.

The BB on my car has remained at 300k฿ from 15/16 to 25/26. There have been 2 small claims in that time. We have maximum NCB.

Can you give any insight into just how the BB level works? I know it's a legal requirement but it doesn't explain the discrepancy in BB levels for my bike and car at the present time, 25/26. It seems to be just a scheme to allow extra charges. I'd be happy with a 300k฿ BB as for the car but insurers won't allow that level, it seems, for bikes. Am I more of a risk of being held, or absconding, as a bike rider as compared to a car driver?

I've asked insurance brokers to explain in the past but have more-or-less been told "It's the law. Take it or leave it", which isn't really satisfactory.

Thanks.

Hi Martin,

Thank you ever so much for the question, it's a good one!

The Bail Bond (BB) limit on a Thai insurance policy is not strictly determined by claims history, NCB, or driving record. Instead, insurers apply their own actuarial modelling, which often factor in the type of vehicle, perceived likelihood of an incident requiring bail, and their specific overall portfolio performance across similar risks.

Motorbikes often attract higher scrutiny from police and carry a higher perceived risk of serious incidents (accidents involving injury, fatality, or alcohol, for example). This is regardless of your personal history. Therefore, insurers often apply a higher BB limit automatically to motorbikes rather than cars, due to portfolio experience and that can evolve and change over time and any prevailing legal or regulatory notes on this can also have a bearing.

I hope this helps, but what we'll do as well, as you mentioned MSIG, is reach out to them (we won't disclose your name/ID to them) to get their written response to this too. We are one of their larger brokers so I am sure they will help us out with their specific insights.

My understanding is a min of 200k is needed for foreigners

As for the amounts offered I agree they do seem arbitrary and follow no rhyme or reason – not even sure the Underwriters know themselves !

I am sure the OP will correct me if wrong but they only stopped dealing directly with International Insurance policies as it was against the Thai regulations for Thai based brokers. They created the Indian office specifically for that.........and to push Regency products .......:whistling:

They have never stopped handling Thai based insurers.

Hi TopT,

Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. It’s always good to clarify these points for the benefit of the wider community.

If you’d ever like to chat offline or grab a coffee with one of our Directors at one of our branches, I’m sure we could arrange that and I know they’d be more than happy to host you and discuss these topics further.

To clarify:

AA Insurance Brokers in Thailand is fully licensed and works with a wide range of Thai-based insurers.

Our parent company, Alliance Group, operates internationally and works with insurers around the world. In fact, in 2024 alone, 89 insurers globally received new business from Alliance Group.

There is no connection between AA Thailand and Regency. The only connections brokers have with any insurers, whether through AA Thailand or AA World, are purely professional: broker > insurer relationships. This ensures loyalty remains with a brokers' clients, not insurers, particularly when it comes to supporting clients in the event of a dispute and that fundamentally is a brokers' core role : what is in your best interests, not theirs or the insurers'.

If you’d like to learn more about our group’s international operations, feel free to visit here:

https://www.welcometoalliance.com/social-responsibility/news/alliance-group-expands-global-footprint

Or drop us a line directly anytime via www.aainsure.net, we’re always happy to hear from you.

Thanks again for raising this. It’s always good to clear up any confusion, and we’re happy to answer questions openly.

Thank you for the question. Yes absolutely, there are a huge range of options available - we can filter down to your specific requirements and ensure you only pay for what you actually need. Would you mind filling out the form found here so we can meet and help you out : Schedule a Call

Any packages from 3 to 5k a month?

Would rather skip filling the form and have a call if the monthly payment is above this range?

Yes, it is likely possible, but we'd have to finalise and confirm this once we know more about you and are sure that what we're recommending is right for the three of you.

We are not the sort of company that wants to sell you something and move on - if we suggest a plan to you it is because we understand what you are looking for, what your circumstances are, and what our professional advice and experience leads us to recommend.

Please get in touch - our advice is free and if you don't like what we propose you're under no obligation whatsoever.

Went into the Pattaya branch of AA  Insurance yesterday afternoon to get some quotes for our new Toyota HEV, very convenient location, the office is on the service road right opposite Big C, can also park right outside their office.

They came out and took pictures of the car and the VIN on the chassis, the girl we dealt with inside was very good, spoke English and quickly printed out a number of different quotes from B11000 to B26000 showing the benefits of each every quote in Thai and in English so I was easily able to understand what each quote offered.

Good experience all round 🙂

Hi Rimmer,

Really appreciate you sharing that and I have to say, as a long-time Red Dwarf fan, seeing your profile name and picture gave me a big nostalgic grin.

So glad to hear the team at our Pattaya branch looked after you and made the process clear and simple. That’s exactly the experience we want people to have : helpful, hassle-free, and with no confusion over the options. I will ensure the team are aware of your kind comments.

Enjoy the new Toyota and congratulations on the purchase, and if you ever need anything else, you know where we are.

Thank you once again,

The AA Team

I had a Thai broker "push" me onto Regency through misrepresentation. Cost me thousands of $$. Be VERY careful with brokers. Whatever policy they steer you toward, INSIST on a complete copy of the policy and ALL of the fine print, study it, check online reviews, and communicate any questions IN WRITING before you transfer a single Baht. I learned the hard way.

Respectfully you should probably do that with any insurance policy from any company (other than compulsory car/bike in Thailand)

At AA Thailand we work exclusively with Thai insurers. Very sorry to hear of your experience with another broker. If you'd like to see options of Thai regulated insurers, please let us know, we'd be more than happy to show you everything - and you are also more than welcome to come to any of our offices and view everything in person too.

The AA Team

AA is a great outfit. Superbly efficient and attentive. The Pattaya office has been my insurance agents for the last five years- two in Pattaya and three in Krabi. My original contact was Khun Cake in the Pattaya office and she, without any prompting, contacts me for renewals of insurance and vehicle registrations. I am very pleased with her marvellous service. I recommend AA unreservedly.

Good morning! This is a lovely message to read, thank you very much, and we will be sure to pass this feedback to K Cake's line management and to herself too.

If you're ever passing any of our offices please do drop in and see us any time - even if it's just for a coffee and a chat in the aircon!

Have a great week ahead.

AA has been my broker for years but now you lot refer me to AA world. Why? I want a 1 person (group) contact point with phone in case of emergency.

I asked about what the hell is going on with WRLive (investigation on fraud) and after 2 weeks still no answer.

Why not ask WrLife directly. A broker doesn't know everything.

Could you send us a direct message with your information included please? AA World has phone and WhatsApp numbers published on their site, but nonetheless we can contact AA World for you and ask them to make contact with you immediately if that helps.

Many thanks!
