A 29-year-old man armed with a BB gun and a ceremonial knife caused panic at Somdet Phra Phutthaloetla Hospital,  Samut Songkhram, on the evening of 18 July, after claiming his heavily pregnant wife was being neglected despite her waters having broken.

The incident unfolded as Police Lieutenant Phasawan Limpaiwan and four other officers from Amphawa Police Station were escorting a psychiatric patient to the hospital. While entering the facility, they encountered the man, later identified as Mr. Piamsak, behaving aggressively in the hospital lobby.

According to initial reports, Mr. Piamsak was wielding a BB gun and a traditional Thai “sugar-palm” knife said to have originated from the revered monk Luang Por Khong of Wat Bang Kapom. Witnesses stated the man was shouting erratically and appeared to threaten nurses and hospital staff.

Lt. Phasawan, assisted by Lance Corporal Siwakorn Torattanasit and other officers, quickly intervened to subdue the suspect. Backup was requested from Mueang Samut Songkhram Police Station, but the situation was brought under control before further escalation.

Mr. Piamsak claimed he had brought his wife to the hospital several times previously and was frustrated by repeated delays in receiving care. “My wife is eight months pregnant. Her waters have already broken, but they’re still making us wait,” he told police. “I’m not here to cause trouble. I just want someone to help her.”

Police confirmed that the man struck a hospital porter from behind during the disturbance, prompting a brief scuffle. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Lt. Phasawan noted that the man had been visibly agitated and appeared ready to brandish his weapons before officers intervened.

Although Mr. Piamsak was not initially detained, hospital officials from Somdet Phra Phutthaloetla have indicated they intend to press charges. A spokesperson stated this aligns with the Ministry of Public Health’s policy to maintain hospitals as “safe zones” and ensure that healthcare environments remain free from threats or intimidation.

Authorities are now reviewing security procedures the hospital following the incident.

So a BB gun and knife is the way to get attention... ?

well that certainly worked.

Whatever it takes:

'When a woman's water breaks, it means the amniotic sac surrounding the baby has ruptured, releasing amniotic fluid. This can lead to increased risk of infection for both mother and baby, and potentially affect the baby's position and ability to move freely.'

The police are certainly setting a high standard for arrest. Since brandishing a BB gun and knife with perceived intent to use it after hitting a porter doesn’t get you banged up.

Preterm amniotic fluid breaking requires hospitalization, antibiotics and/or induce labor. You would never send a patient home if she was 8 months pregnant and her amniotic fluid has broken.

Sounds like the obgyn was grossly negligent or the fluid did not break. If the fluid did break, I applaud the man for saving lives or his baby and/or mom. 👏👏

So, what about his wife? Did the hospital take care of her? Is the baby born?
