The 7-Eleven Ham and Cheese Toastie (฿29) Thailand’s Proper Gastro Heaven

Featured Replies

Lewie, you never fail to bring home the bacon... or in this case, cheese!

Another delightful read about one of Thailand's ubiquitous landmarks and its quintessential Ham and Cheese toastie!  This one came in just as I was getting breakfast ready, so the timing was perfect; it's a delightful read over a steaming mug (actually a beer stein) full of Chinese Keemun tea from Fortnum & Mason.
Keep them coming, Lewie! It's a pleasant way to start the day!

7/11 is one of the reasons the women of Thailand are blowing up, and putting on so much weight. Nothing bordering on healthy in the way of prepared food there, and likely all CP junk products. No than

  • Not surprised an Englishman waxing poetic about that disgusting bit of junk food. Yet another foodstuff farang can add to their list of crap that they can eat to retain sustainance while in Asia.

  • I think the entire sandwich is synthetic. Soylent green between two slices of who knows what

Flawed OP. A double is 39 baht. One at 29 is poor value. 50% overpriced.

How can you F up a boiled egg?

If the Chinese can do it, so can the Thais:

"prepare a mould, then mix the right amounts of resin, starch, coagulant and pigments to make egg white. Sodium alginate, extracted from brown algae, gives the egg white the wanted viscosity. Then add the fake egg yolk, a different mix of resin and pigments. Once the proper shape is achieved, an amalgamate of paraffin wax, gypsum powder and calcium carbonate makes for a credible shell."

I have repeatedly asked the ladies in my house this very question.

Once an Amazon outlet did a super Ham and Cheese Toastie. The sales girl warned me it might take awhile to do it. I agreed, and when it was ready she said to make it good, it takes time (translation was done by my TGF).  It was heavenly!

Unfortunately, I cant remember the location.

Costa coffee did a decent toasty too... but Costo is gooooooone.

By dropping it on the ground?

For those in discovery mode:

They claim it's a croissant holding the salmon and tuna... seems to sell well

In your zeal to castigate Lewie, you replied to him in the wrong post.
Slow down! Accuracy counts. LOL!

All farang tourists are allergic to vegetables and merely looking at anything spicy sets their poor little tummies on fire.

UK must be the absolute worst judges of good food on the planet.

The sandwich is positively revolting. It's generally fake fake cheese, some form of low end animal product slathered in fake butter made from palm oil between two pieces of white bread.

How about tackling your favorite Pattaya all you can eat Sunday roast? Just what every overweight middle aged man needs to eat in the 36C heat weekly 🙋

You come across as such a sad person. On an almost daily basis I pass a run down Thai bar with a couple of pool tables. And just about every time I drive by I see one old wrinkled farang sitting by himself, nursing a small bottle of Leo. And his facial expression is one of such profound sadness and hopelessness it's striking.

Is that you, KhaoHom?💔

I think you'll find that with this poster it's the post count that matters.

It also thinks that having the most thumbs down emoji hits for the garbage it posts is a badge of honour!

Whenever I decide to take a break from eating healthy, one of my go-to's is the Mickie-D double fish filet. Thailand is one of the few countries that serve it. Arguably one of the worst things you can introduce into your system and I LOVE 'em!

Watched a clip about it on YouTube last night. Supposedly, the Filet-O-Fish is not as unhealthy as one may think. (It's real fish, for example.)

If you local 7/11 has a bakery some are pretty good, I noticed the other day they had 2 kinds of hotdog, one was with some bacon bits and the other is with cheddar cheese, I think 33 baht, I did take one home and warmed it up tasted better,

Well, frack me! Real fish in a fish burger? McDee moving into the realm of fine dining!😉

Yeah, let's belittle the 7-11 staff on the wages they earn, because ... why not?

What's the point of this thread exactly?

So you decided to kill 3 birds with one stone in this thread?

Make fun of 7-11 employees, trash Thailand because of it's junk food offerings, and simultaneously make fun of the drunken farang who stumbles into 7-11 at 3 AM for one of these?

Nice job.

It's deep-fried. The arteries take a beating on anything that is deep fried.

Also, the cooking oils are going to be unhealthy.

Sorry to be the grim reaper, but .... I would treat it as a cheat meal. If you're middle-aged you probably shouldn't be eating at McDonald's 3 times a week if you want to stay healthy.

Classic Susan brainless logic at work. Preaches nonstop about healthy eating, clean living, and exercise, which he never follows himself, then jumps into a thread about processed ham and rubbery cheese toasties only to recommend people make it twice as unhealthy for just ฿10 more. Incredible. Nothing screams health guru like pushing extra factory ham and mystery cheese while lecturing others about fitness. Absolute pinnacle of hypocrisy.

Just like the majority of it's pointless, to us, posts!

PS;  It thinks it's hundreds of posts and thumb downs every day are a sign of being liked!  🤣

Based on his posts, he seems genuinely deluded enough to believe that the hundreds of thumbs down he gets are all from angry haters, that he is somehow happy, and that the thumbs down are just proof of other people’s jealousy.

Have to agree with you on this one, and, yes, I don't eat there often these days.

I like looking around in the freezers in Makro see what delights and snacks they have, got some the other day Chipolatas from that company TGM they were all right.

The lettuce is iceberg which has no nutritional value whatsoever.

No, it's not. It's cos lettuce mixed together with another variety. I'm not so up-to-date on the names of all the different varieties of lettuce, but it's definitely not iceberg. I eat it sometimes. I like the salad and the chicken. I always bin the dressing and the garlic laden croutons.
