In a move stirring speculation, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will meet with ruling coalition MPs today. This rare event aims to bolster unity before Parliament reconvenes.

Chief Government Whip Wisut Chainaroon confirmed the gathering, highlighting its importance due to recent shifts within the coalition. "This isn’t unusual," asserted Wisut of the Pheu Thai Party. "Our coalition needs to realign after changes."

Nevertheless, Thaksin's appearance raises eyebrows. Ousted in a 2006 coup and having recently returned from a 15-year exile, Thaksin's visible role at the dinner sends ripples just weeks before critical legislative sessions.

Critics fear his presence suggests attempts to exert political influence, but Wisut downplayed such concerns. "Domination would mean giving orders," he explained. "Thaksin sharing insights isn’t control. Many cherished his premiership; learning from him could be beneficial."

For many younger MPs, this event marks their first in-person meeting with Thaksin, offering a chance to gain wisdom from the seasoned politician.

Interior Minister and Deputy PM, Phumtham Wechayachai, who is acting as PM, insists the dinner is routine. "These gatherings help MPs build relationships," he stated. "The media's involvement remains under discussion."

Amid speculation about Thaksin's potential influence on Pheu Thai's direction, this meeting focuses attention on his role amidst upcoming Cabinet reshuffles and policy debates. As the political landscape evolves, all eyes are on the impact of this dinner on Thailand’s governance.

Talking of wisdom, are they providing hot showers for these neophytes for when they've finished meeting him?

Lets face it, we all know he's in charge and pulling all the strings.

He may think he's doing the country a favour but in fact he doing ,more harm than good, making an absolute mockery of Thai politics.

And he/they believe the rest of the world are taking them seriously...

No, it doesn't Wisut: demanding and accepting fealty does, and that's what will happen, don't you know it...

I reckon he's going just to get a bowlful of sharks fin soup with seconds.
