Featured Replies

With the tensions fighting at the border and tarrifs you would think that the baht would fall but while the elites are investing overseas they will keep it as high as they can they rule Thailand not the politicians something has to happen eventually

Some of us are experiencing the same issues with the US dollar tanking against the Thai baht many of the issues are quite understandable. Trump is destroying the US economy one step at a time. It coul

Always bear in mind that the rich and powerful in Thailand invest heavily overseas, in property and in stocks, hence the almost permanent over valuation of the Baht.

Obviously most of us are wrong on the direction of the THB.

Everything points to that it should be weaker and getting weaker.

However seems to remain in the same zone and perhaps strengthen some against the popular curreencies.

Could be plenty of things we just don't know about when such things happen.

Government intervention #1.

Big Company intervention #2....there are a few companies  that could probably manipulate things.

Under Thaksin in 2005 we were getting 75bt+ to £1.

2005 was before Great Britain decided to trash their currency with Brexit

The US dollar is not tanking? The dollar was at nearly 35 baht in November of 2024. Today? 32.16

The dollar was at near parity to the Euro in January of 2025, just prior to the sabateur engaging his ignorant policies. Now? 1.176 dollars for one Euro.

In addition the entire planet seems to be avoiding US government bonds, and the dollar indexes have all dropped.

It was 44-1 when I got here, it was about 20-1 a year before that, and it got below 30 just a few years ago.

If people just use 32.5 / $1 USD, as the medium, than any 10% fluctuation is NORMAL.   The sky isn't falling, and the THB isn't crashing, and hasn't for almost 20 years.  Quite the opposite, as  the extremes have been in our favor, at least since I've been here.   40-45 before settling in the thirties.  36-37-38 of late, thanks Joe.

All smiles if above 35, (again, thanks Joe) and nothing is newsworthy, unless it dips below 30 ... for more than a few months.   A week doesn't count.

Not expecting <30, and sadly, not expecting >35 any time soon either.  I'll only worry when it gets below ฿27.6 / $1.   Then I'll have to change from retired to married as a reason for extension, and that hasn't happened in the last 25 yrs  :cheesy:

Yes.... Before Brexit, 55 baht to the GBP, ever since rarely over 45 baht. An average 20% hit, When Johnson took over, it dropped below 40 for a while. Morons F***** up my retirement, but they still 'believe' it was good for UK. And migration - before Brexit, mainly eastern Europeans, who at least worked and were only a minor problem; many of them just worked a few years to get a nice bit of cash to buy a house or start a business back home.  Ever since, the dregs of Africa and Asia, who never leave. Last year the population of England and Wales grew by 690,000, of which 95% were migrants.

When I came in Dec 2016 it was around 36 THB to USD. Sure was nice when it was 36 to 37 around 15 mths ago.

Wow, I don't remember it getting that high. That sure would be great for me.

War  with Cambodia seems to have been good for the baht? I would have thought not. Or maybe UK government is just doing badly as usual.
