In the early hours of Friday, tragedy struck on National Highway 1 in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, as a sleeper bus carrying dozens of passengers overturned, resulting in 10 fatalities and injuring 14 others.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., the bus, travelling north and registered in Da Nang City, lost control near Song Tri Ward. The catastrophic accident saw nine passengers pronounced dead at the scene, while 15 others were swiftly taken to nearby hospitals. Sadly, one later succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities have identified five of the deceased as three women, aged 47, 43, and 31, a 48-year-old man, and a young girl aged just 4.

The road, at the time, had minimal traffic and the bus sustained severe damage, with wheels nearly detached and debris scattered across the highway.

Initial investigations, supported by the driver’s statement, suggest that a tyre blowout might have caused the bus to overturn. Importantly, tests confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Local police are actively engaged in the ongoing rescue efforts, managing traffic flow, and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of this tragic incident.

The incident highlights the risks associated with road travel and raises concerns about vehicle maintenance and road safety standards in the region.

This heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of the fragile nature of life, urging authorities to bolster safety measures and ensure that transportation services adhere to rigorous safety checks, potentially averting future tragedies.

Readers are urged to stay informed as further updates on the investigation and response efforts are expected to unfold in the coming days.

I know this is crazy....but would there be any milage (ha) in checking all the tyres for at least their age and wear (obvs not damage).

There was an accident in the UK, three died, where a tyre (that's how you spell tyre) burst....it was 19 years old!!!
