SURIN - In response to rising tensions, Surin immigration is taking immediate action. A temporary operations centre has been established to ensure public safety and facilitate essential services for residents.

Police Colonel Chatchai Samniang, who is the head of Surin’s Immigration Office, announced the move. The primary mission remains managing and monitoring foreign nationals entering and exiting the kingdom while enforcing immigration laws and maintaining national security.

The catalyst for this action was a recent border skirmish between Thai and Cambodian troops. Tensions over boundary lines and overlapping territories escalated, prompting a closure of the border. In response, on 24th July, police and immigration officers were urgently evacuated from the area for safety, reported Siamm Rath.

The newly established operations centre is positioned at the Surin Government Centre (new Provincial Hall), on the 3rd floor, Non Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Surin District. This facility aims to provide continuous service to the public and foreign nationals seeking assistance, ensuring minimal disruption during this period.

The conflict underscores ongoing regional sensitivities, highlighting the crucial role of immigration services. As the situation stabilises, the focus remains on safeguarding civilians and providing unimpeded access to necessary services.

The proactive stance of Urin Immigration exemplifies a commitment to public welfare amidst uncertainty. As tensions appear to persist, the makeshift centre is set to remain operational as long as needed.

Just came back from there (90-day report). At 1000 lots of staff with nothing to do, no customers except me. Took less than 2 minutes.

Do they impose overstay fine on those who couldn't leave on time because of the war between 2 nations?

As far as I know, they have no concern for the "reason" why they couldn't depart before the deadline even in case of the border closure(as always demonstrated in the past).
