Can't set up a monthly transfer.

Featured Replies

For the past year I've had a monthly transfer set up on my SCB phone app. From my SCB account to my wife's GSB account. On the first of every month the housekeeping money I give her automatically went into her bank account. Now that has expired and I can't set up another schedule.

I can make a one-time transfer immediately, which I did today, but my app no longer allows me to schedule a transfer, for example, for tomorrow, or a day next week, or the first of each month for the coming year.

I've contacted both banks but haven't received any sort of explanation, and I'm starting to wonder if it's a new restriction applied to accounts in foreigner's names.

Does anyone know anything, or had a similar experience, or know of a solution?

I log into the SCB mobile banking app and then I click on Banking Services > Transfer. Then I choose which account to make the transfer to. Then I click on "Set a Schedule". Then I click on the "Monthly" tab. Then I set a start date and an end date. And I set "Make payment every" to whatever date I want the payment to repeat on every month. I think the maximum time period you can set is an "End date" that is no more than 12 months from the current date. So if you want to do monthly payments you cannot set it up in advance to do more than 12 monthly payments. After 12 months you have to set it all up again.

UOB is better in this regard as you can set up to 24 months of monthly payments in advance I believe.

Hi and thanks for your answer. Yes, what you describe here is exactly what I do. In the past I did just that. But now when I try to do it  I ser everything up then when I press review I get the message "Unable to proceed. We cannot process this transaction at the moment".  And in the calendar it reads "You have no scheduled transactions". So the app no longer allows me to to make monthly schedule transactions, and it doesn't even let me make a ONCE scheduled transaction. But I can make an immediate transaction.

All very confusing. There are no issues at my end. Plenty of money in my bank, I'm not trying to make massive transactions, and all my details are up to date, I went into the bank a few months ago with my PP and checked everything was up to date.

In that case, I would just go to an SCB branch and show them the issue with the app on your phone and see what they say.

The only other thing I can think of is that if the transfer amount you are trying to schedule is above ฿49,999, it might be restricted for security reasons.

I believe the app now requires a face scan for any transfer over that amount. Meaning, you will now need to scan your face each time with the app to complete a transaction above that amount, which is something you wouldn't be able to do with a scheduled transfer, and that's probably why they don't allow it.

Try putting in a lower amount of only 5,000 Baht as a test and see what happens.

Thanks again, no it's not about a large amount, it's actually 15,000, however, I've been on the phone again to the SCB call center, apparantly the IT guys are looking at it and will call me when they find the issue. At first I thought it might be some new restriction on farang accounts, but now it seems like a technical hitch with my app or their system.

About that face scan, I read that farang couldn't use that feature. Do you know if that's correct?

Sounds to me like you've got a 'foreigner detected' error on your app.

Maybe, that's the way my mind has been thinking too. Hopefully not.

I've had this problem with the SCB app as well, and as you say staff are unable to explain to you why.

I discovered that the main reason the app refuses to do these standard transfers is because you haven't got enough money in your bank account to cover all of them! Not just the one for the next month, but the whole sequence....

This is a total longshot, but see the OS is up to date and especially you are running latest app iteration.

Go back and check all your settings carefully. Something may now be disallowing the recurring payment.

Have you tried sending to another account at GSB? Another account anywhere?

I don't think any staff in any bank will be helpful tbh.

Just hand her the 15k. Works for me every time.

Have you considered going into the bank and checking.  I find the call centers here restricted to what their screens tell them and not able to think outside the box.

Probably you need to register for face scan and also verify your phone number.

At least that's the case for K Bank mobile banking if you want to setup new monthly transfer now

Thanks for your reply Andyfez, I still haven't heard back from the IT people so might give them another call today. There is sufficient balance in my account to cover the transfers for a couple of years.

Yes, I verified phone and all my personal details with the bank a few months ago, everything is up to date, however I do not have the face scan set up so will look into that. Thanks for your suggestion.

Yes I actually started off at the bank in person but they weren't any help and put me onto the call center. But I may have to go in again.

OK, good tip, so I'll check the app settings so see if any update is there. As for sending to another account. I have sent money to my wife's GSB account, I can do a transfer at any time, but only a transfer now, I can't set up the schedule.

What is preventing you from scheduling payments? Option grayed out? Pop-up?

Did you try scheduling b50? I know 15k isn't much but ...

Schedule tiny payments to a different accounts to eliminate variables:

Send to different bank - this will tell you if GSB is the issue in general.

Different GSB account if possible - this will tell you if her account may be flagged for some reason.

If the options grayed out and unavailable? That's probably app related.

* Check the account number, routing is correct.

* Check name is correct if needed

* Update the app

* Check the time, day set correctly on device

* Again, go thru the app settings and look slowly and carefully

* Is your internet connection solid. Rock solid?

* Try to search issue on internet. I know it's app specific but maybe some general knowledge out there

Can you schedule on a computer? I don't know if all bank access is only via app - I don't use banking apps.

Is your phone old? Perhaps the OS doesn't meet minimum requirements - long shot

When you go in - set up a payment with the CSR together. They probably won't have a clue, it's a longshot

Another thought...do you do anything with sending money abroad ? Maybe there is a currency switch that is stuck in say USD.  Therefore, you'd be sending USD to THB account.

Q: Can you enter everything and then it craps out on SEND or when you start pulling menus it disallows recurring payments?

Error messages would be helpful for bank staff.

Face scan: another long shot. Check to see your face scan is registered. Yes, I know you've done it and you sent b4 and it WAS working.

3 words that sometimes make a difference assistant manager please,

Same when calling call center.  No matter the company or country, it is all the same.  The person you talk to immediately is someone who is there and has a computer screen in front of them . The sole training they have is how to operate the computer screen to get the right path.  Add to that, they all have call time quotas, which means they want you on and off as quickly as possible, and really could not give a crap.

The supervisor or floor person does not have caltime issues and also is not restricted to just the screens.  they are allowed to think and usually can think out of the box to get you satisfaction

Yes, I worked in call centers for large T Mobile and for other companies, and hated most of the first-line people because they were lazy.   Remember, they're not the brightest. They are working for minimum wage at what to most of them is a dead-end job.

Phone is new, a new model bought late last year. Internet very good - 3BB. Have checked many times all details correct. I can (and have) make a transfer from my acc to wife's acc, so no blocks or errors, just can't set up the schedule. I can set it all up but after the final click to review it up pops an error message saying unable to proceed. I can't try on a computer as SCB only allow you to have their app on one device. Anyway, if it doesn't get resolved I'll just manually make the transfers each month, but it would be better if I can set up a transfer schedule and just forget about it for 12 months. Thanks for your helpful suggestions.

No never sent money abroad with this bank/app.

Right

I would resolve the face scan thing first and foremost

Question isn't whether you can make a one-off transfer to another account or another bank and account. The question is can you make a recurring scheduled transfer.  Therefore, I would suggest that you set up a scheduled recurring payment of b50 to another bank instead of GSB. Try b50 over three days. Like that. If popup comes immediately after you send - it's probably on your end. The longer it takes the more possibility it's an issue outside.

Finally, if the error message has a code it could be very helpful in troubleshooting.

I've heard back from SCB customer service, they did tests themselves and cannot set up scheduled transfers with GSB. I looked online and came across this thread which explains a bit. I guess the answer to my problem is here.

Interesting. My troubleshooting would have probably pinpointed that. Good, well you have your answer. Have a great week
