A large fire broke out in the early hours of the morning of 3 August, at a Thailand Post parcel warehouse in Phanat Nikhom district, Chonburi Province, destroying a vast number of parcels and triggering a large emergency response.

The blaze was reported around 01:30 at the warehouse located on Srijarusamphan 2 Road in Phanat Nikhom Municipality. Police Lieutenant Natchaphon Saengsee, deputy inspector of Phanat Nikhom Police Station, received the alert and immediately coordinated with municipal fire services and the Sawang Het Ban Thung Hiang Rescue Unit.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the warehouse engulfed in flames, with the fire rapidly consuming parcels stored inside. It took over an hour and half, to bring the blaze under control.

During the operation, emergency personnel were also alerted to the presence of four residents trapped by smoke in an adjoining building. Firefighters and rescue workers successfully rescued and evacuated all four individuals, who were suffering from smoke inhalation. They were treated with first aid at the scene, before being transferred to hospital.

A preliminary inspection of the warehouse revealed extensive damage, with a majority of parcels either burned or severely damaged. A few areas remained untouched by the fire.

Mr. Kitti Thepsuwannawut, a rescue officer at Sawang Het Ban Thung Hiang, said: “We received an urgent call from our command centre about the fire at the postal warehouse. Upon arriving, we were told there were people trapped inside, so we immediately called for more fire engines. After about an hour of fighting the flames, we were able to rescue everyone and ensure their safety.”

Police suspect the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit, although a full investigation is underway. Forensic officers from Region 2 will collect additional evidence from the site to determine the exact cause of the fire. Authorities have taken photographs of the scene and plan to interview relevant parties as part of their ongoing inquiry.
