Tom Tom 1

Featured Replies

Iv recently move dto Pattaya from the UK. Ive brought my Tom Tom 1 satnav with with me. Just wondering if I can buy a Thai map for the Tom Tom.

TomTom dont make a map for Thailand or didnt as of last month. Garmin certainly do but to the best of my knowledge you cant swap maps between the two different manufacturers.

THanks BPraim, 11200bht just for the map. Thats more than a new Tom Tom 1 in the UK. Saying that I will still probably buy it as the printed maps in THialand arent much good.

Save yourself some problems and email them to see if the map will work on the Tom Tom. As far as I know, the maps will only work on Garmin.

Good on yah GaryA

I am not 100% sure if they will work on TomTom gps nav.

Sorry should had added that! oupss

Anyone know how either Garmin or Tom Tom maps relate to what Nokia is doing at the moment? Either Smart2Go based or Route 66 based?

You can't interchange maps as already said.

I bought an xda mini with me from the UK and kept an eye open for some cheapish/decentish software.

First I found MapKing (free :o) online but the maps weren't upto scratch. On a trip to Chiang Mai I had a look around Pantip Plaza and ended up buying a bluetooth gps receiver which came with PowerMap inc Thai Maps, to be honest I can't fault it for B3500 (a place in Pantip Plaza BKK wanted over B10k for the same thing):D

I have read that the PowerMap maps can be converted to work on the MapKing software but the instructions were all in Chinese so I couldn't try. The programs are basically the same the only difference is the maps included/available.

TomTom don't have Thai maps available as yet, when they do I think I will invest although with the lack of postcodes etc I don't think it will easy to operate as in the the UK.

H.T.H :D
