Options for Staying in Thailand for 5 months

Featured Replies

Apologies. especially to @DrJack54, because I am sure that I have seen the answer to this recently.

Anyway, for a friend, married to a Thai and they have a son.

Son is being educated in the UK and Dad is bringing him over to visit his family. Son has Thai and British passports.

I believe the intention is to come in visa exempt (unless there is a better option) and I am aware he can have at least one 30 day extension.

What are the best options for him?

Thanks

5 month and also married to a Thai the guy has many options.

Not sure of cost of a Non O marriage eVisa obtained in UK ...

However that would provide a 90 day stamp.

He could then apply for 60 day extension to visit wife.

Only one visit to immigration.

At other end of the pool he could enter visa exempt and do 30 day extension + 60 to visit wife.

2 visits to immigration.

Hells bells ...so many options.

He could even enter visa exempt and then mini holiday in joint like Saigon.

UK national has visa exempt available to Vietnam.

Then return visa exempt all up 2 + 2 + one month extension.

Depends to some extent where would be located in Thailand.

Many more recipe available.

I sorta missed that. Good pick up.

Yes the wife would need to attend for any 60 day extension to visit wife.

Narrows options but still has plenty.

Age of son would be helpful along with location staying in Thailand.

Will the Thai wife/mother be accompanying them on this trip? As confirmed by ubonjoe in this 2019 thread, her presence will be needed when and if your friend applies for a 60-day wife visit extension:

Thanks for that addition.

The wife resides mainly in Thailand so that will be OK.

VE entry = 60 days, + 30 day extension (tourism), + 60 day extension to visit Thai spouse.
Airline will require an outbound ticket within 60/90 days.
2 visits to Immigration.

Non Imm O visa from home Country = 90 days on entry, + 60 day extension to visit Thai spouse.
No outbound ticket required.
1 visit to Immigration.

Location?

The question is in relation to border bounce option vs airports

It’s Buriram with Osmach the best option for a couple of nights in Siam Reap. Any remaining border issues and he can do Bangkok to PP.

Given current conflict...

I would be opting for Non O eVisa obtained in UK followed by 60 to visit wife.

Only one visit to immigration and no need to exit Thailand.

Alternatively depending on immigration office he could do visa exempt + 30 day extension + 60 to visit wife.

Needs to do the 30 day extension first.

Note some offices currently not allowing this
