A man fishing in a rural canal in Chonburi got more than he bargained for when he pulled up his line expecting a large fish, only to find a baby crocodile dangling from the hook.

The unusual catch occurred in Moo 3, Hua Thanon subdistrict, Phanat Nikhom district, Chonburi, where Mr. Pornsak, 35, had been fishing in a natural waterway running through rice fields.

He told reporters he had taken several days off work and decided to catch fish for a meal, setting 30 baited fishing lines along the canal. As evening approached, he went to check them before heading home.

One rod was bent and shaking violently, leading him to believe he had hooked a sizeable fish. But when he hauled the line from the water, he was shocked to find a small crocodile instead.

He brought the reptile ashore and uncertain of what to do with his catch, he contacted local authorities to inspect and removed it.

He also warned nearby residents to be cautious, fearing the baby’s mother might still be in the canal.
