In a significant crackdown on drug distribution, authorities in Narathiwat have apprehended two major drug dealers, seizing over 40 kilogrammes of kratom brew. The operation, part of the government's ongoing No Drugs No Dealers campaign, unfolded yesterday at 2:30 PM, led by provincial governor Tra-Koon Thotham along with Police Major General Krisada Kaewjandi and Police Colonel Niyom Suwankhong.

With combined efforts from Narathiwat police and special operations teams from both the provincial and Mueang Narathiwat district administrations, the operation aimed to thwart the spread of drugs among local youths. This collective initiative underscores the Thai government's commitment to eradicating drug-related activities across the country.

During the raid, two suspects were apprehended. Adisak, aged 27, was found in possession of 33 bags of kratom brew, with a total weight of approximately 20 kilogrammes. Alongside him, 44-year-old Asaming was discovered with 28 bags, also amounting to around 20 kilogrammes. Both individuals confessed to preparing the kratom for sale within the community.

The culprits have been charged with violating the Ministry of Public Health’s Announcement No. 430 from 2021, under the Food Act of 1979. They were taken to Mueang Narathiwat Police Station for legal proceedings to commence. If convicted, these charges could lead to substantial penalties, reinforcing the seriousness with which the authorities view drug distribution.

Narathiwat province is actively working to combat and prevent such illegal activities, in alignment with policies spearheaded by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any drug-related information. The Damrongdhamma Centre hotline at 1567 and the police hotline at 191 are accessible 24 hours a day for this purpose.

In this broader campaign against drugs, community awareness and cooperation are pivotal. The authorities' swift action in this case exemplifies the urgent response required to address the drug menace affecting local communities. With continued efforts, the government aims to ensure a safer environment for future generations.

The seized kratom, which is often consumed for its stimulant effects, poses risks similar to other illicit drugs, prompting stringent measures. By curbing the availability of such substances, authorities hope to reduce their abuse, particularly among the youth.

This operation not only highlights the dedication of local law enforcement but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in the fight against drug trafficking. As Narathiwat continues to stand firm against drug-related crimes, the cooperation between officials and the community remains crucial to sustaining this momentum.
