It's experiencing a significant slowdown in tourism because it's still offering the same thing that has been on offer for the last 80 years.

But at double the price of three years ago, due to the rise due to inflation and the rise of the baht.

Because there is more too vacations than Temples, Duel Pricing, Tuk Tuk rip-offs and sub standard beaches oh yer and Street Fights.

In other words they're greedy because they still have more tourists than south korea and Vietnam but these 2 countries have had a bigger increase in tourists than before.   Stop being greedy and be happy you're still getting a decent amount of tourists.

Who, who, is not coming to Thailand because of the border conflict?

This just sounds more like deflecting the real problem with low tourist arrivals, it's because they are going somewhere else for reasons that are not new. The same old problems.

Thailand may be losing its edge, but they are not losing the plot entirely. Europe is. They want to reduce tourism by penalizing tourists.

Picture the scene: your flight has just landed in Antalya, Turkey, and you can't wait to get off the plane. You unbuckle, spring from your seat and grab your bag from the overhead locker, eager to start your holiday. But you've been a bit too keen. A flight attendant takes you aside and issues you a swift €62 (£54) fine because you have contravened a new rule: from this year, unbuckling your seatbelt or leaving your seat before the plane has stopped taxiing carries a penalty. It's a chastening start to your trip.

In Portugal's popular seaside town of Albufeira, wearing swimwear off the beach could cost you up to €1,500 (£1,307). In Spain's Balearic Islands – including Mallorca and Ibiza – public drinking fines can reach €3,000 (£2,615). Even small infractions, like reserving a sunbed and disappearing, could put a dent in your holiday budget.

Hiking Italy's Cinque Terre in inappropriate footwear could see travellers shelling out up to €2,500 (£2,180).

Collecting a seashell in Greece could cost €1,000 (£870); swimming in Venice's canals, €350 (£305).

Prices same same, unless you go to girlie bars and too lazy to cook...nothing has doubled in Thailand the last 3 years

Only thing I didn't like was seeing dogs on grills on the roads there

Better on the grill than loose on the streets

Actually, better trained properly, with love, and respect towards others and not a burden to others. Eating dogs , a domestic animal, isn't right. They can be the best and loyal companions people have.

Surely there is a crying need for AN to up its game, which really would not be difficult?

If they are journalists, as I believe AN and Thaiger claim, why can't they look at what they are given and point out the inconsistencies, then maybe enquire into the reasons for them, At the same time they need to do some simple arithmetic on the numbers that they are given, to make sure that they make sense. Very often they do not, especially when they are quoting statistics to ridiculous degrees of accuracy. Comparing percentages without making sure that the quantities are comparable is very misleading, since 100% of 1 million is only 3.3% of 30 million. Saying that "Vietnam appears to be a major beneficiary, boasting a 22.5% increase in foreign tourists in the first seven months, a total of 12.2 million" implies that they had 66.4 million foreign tourists in the first seven months, whereas they probably meant "to make a total of 12.2 million". There are many more similar examples.

Where have you been hiding ?

This has been standard on airlines for bloody years.

Not sure I get the part about South Korea. In the report it talks about South Korea's visa free scheme, but in the article it only refers to 1 million South Koreans going to Vietnam. I know Thais like going to South Korea on tours (like they go to Japan). Not sure other foreigners other than Chinese and Japanese would consider more than a couple of days in Seoul (compared to Thailand, which would still be the international favorite I think - over travel to South Korea. Maybe via a Korean airline in transit, but that's about it I think).

  • 1 month later...

It would be very satisfying to see the elite much better off who have never wanted anything in life live a month in the shoes of hardworking less fortunate people with a small amount to live on and clothe themselves.Maybe they would Think about changing there small tiny minds.
