Trump claims credit for fixing Social Security as it barrels toward insolvency - The Washington Post

www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/08/14/trump-social-security-90th-annniversary/

Quote

President Donald Trump marked the 90th anniversary of Social Security on Thursday with an Oval Office signing of a proclamation that the safety net was “more resilient than ever before,” thanks to him. He claimed improvements to the program’s customer service. He also misleadingly declared that he had checked off his campaign promise to eliminate taxes on benefits for seniors.

But Social Security is barreling toward insolvency faster than before because of Trump’s tax bill and immigration policies, according to experts. The agency has faced tumult since the U.S. DOGE Service came in with a grand scheme to root out fraud and overhaul the program, causing disruptions and frustrations within the agency.

And despite the repetition of “no tax on Social Security” from Trump and his allies, the law ultimately signed by the president did not eliminate taxes on seniors’ benefits.

To wit:

Trump did not eliminate SS taxes as he lied he did.

Trump's policies do not strengthen the future of SS as he lied that they did. Instead he weakened it's future.

Trump via DOGE did not improve the service of SS as he lied that he did. Instead, he degraded it.

On top of the big lies mentioned in the article it should also be noted that Trump's firing of a respected objective statistician to be replaced with a maga cult loyalist threatens the future accuracy of COLAs. To explain this, the Trump regime obviously wants to deny inflation for political reasons. COLAs are based on inflation statistics. With a Trump's yes man feeding fake numbers to please the dear leader Trump, it's fair to think that the ultimate result of future COLAs under Trump will be lower than they would have been with real numbers.

In fairness as far as Trump lying. Of course he lies constantly, much more than any other president in history.

So it isn't really news when he tells lies.

Rather it's news about the rare occasions that he tells the truth.

SS went negative in 2010, and Nancy calimed SS was fine.    Why have the dems have done nothing to address the funding issues with SS since this is their signature program?

True. But only for some people that will get a benefit from that.  Not even close to all SS recipients. Again, Trump lied. Face facts.

Congress didn't want to give up the revenue, thus the compromise of the standard deduction.

This how things work in the USA.

Face facts.

Lame whataboutism.

The republicans have total control now.

They just made it worse and not one peep at address the funding crisis coming sooner now because of their action.

How come the dems are not addressing the issue?

How did they make it worse.  Do tell.

The increased deduction for some (not all) speeds up the date when there will be a MASSIVE cut for ALL SS recipients. Duh.

People on SS are not paying the SS tax.

What was passed was an increased tax deduction for yes seniors which is useful only for some. Trump LIED and said social security tax was stopped. Not true at all.
