A 73-year-old woman drowned after her car fell into a pond in Don Ka Subdistrict, U Thong District, Suphan Buri province ,on the evening of 15 August.

Police at U Thong Station were alerted to the incident at approximately 21:30 and immediately called in rescue teams and divers. The vehicle, a black sedan, had sunk to the bottom of a three-metre-deep pond in the village. After more than three hours of recovery work using a crane, the car was successfully raised. The body of the woman, identified as Ms Lamphun, was found on the rear seat and later taken to U Thong Hospital for a detailed post-mortem.

Lamphun’s younger sister, Chayanphim, told authorities that her sister had just returned from a friend’s funeral in a neighbouring village and became disoriented while driving through the area. Fortunately, a local official, Saman Hongwiangchan, had offered to guide her on a motorcycle. However, as they reached a three-way junction near the pond, Lamphun’s car suddenly stopped and then accelerated into the water.

Saman, who witnessed the accident, said he attempted to alert her by honking his horn and tried to bang on the car windows, but the vehicle continued to sink before help could arrive.

CCTV footage from the area captured the car halting at the junction before plunging into the pond. Authorities have preserved all footage and evidence for the investigation and are awaiting the post-mortem results.
