A 19-year-old man was critically injured after being caught in the crossfire during a shooting incident involving a large group of youths in Phatthalung province. Police are urgently investigating the case.

According to reports, over 20 vehicles, including motorcycles and pick-up trucks, were involved in a disorderly and disruptive drive through the streets of Mueang Phatthalung District. During the chaos, gunfire was directed at a white Toyota Vigo pick-up truck, registered in Phatthalung. The victim, identified only as Nuk, was struck in the left hip and sustained serious injuries.

Police investigator Lieutenant Colonel Wiroj Boonkae from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station said officers found the vehicle riddled with bullets, more than eight rounds hit the front passenger door and another round struck the rear door. Some bullets penetrated the cabin, causing injury to the passenger.

The driver of the pick-up, 19-year-old Tae, told authorities that he and five friends were returning from running errands in the town centre when they encountered the group of youths near the provincial bus station. As they attempted a U-turn, gunshots rang out, prompting the friends in the back seat to cry that someone had been shot. Tae immediately drove them to the hospital.

Friends of the victim insisted that Nuk had no prior conflicts with any group. Police believe that the perpetrators used more than one firearm during the attack and are now gathering evidence to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
