Duty-Free

The following goods may be imported into Thailand without incurring customs duty by any person, irrespective of age:

200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco or equal weight of cigars; 1l of alcoholic liquor; one still camera with five rolls of film or one movie camera with three rolls of 8mm or 16mm film.

Restricted exports

There are restrictions on the import of non-prescribed drugs and all firearms and ammunition, and the export of items of archaeological interest or historical value, without a certificate of authorisation from the Department of Fine Arts in Thailand. The export of images of the Buddha and other religious artefacts is also subject to this ruling. Radio transceiver equipment, plant and living materials, live animals or products, medicines and chemicals also require a permit from the relevant Government agency. Cameras, video cameras and portable computers must be declared to the Customs Officer. Jewellery and ornaments are required to go through the Customs formalities at the Outbound section.

Prohibited items

Gold bullion must be declared on arrival and can be left at the airport of entry to be retrieved on departure. The import of meat from any country affected by Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) ('mad cow disease') and foot and mouth diseases is prohibited; the measure covers meat from all 15 EU countries and any other infected country. Pornographic material and protected wild animals or products are also prohibited.

Warning

Any drug-related offences are severely punished and may result in life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

Hi,

What is "1 liter alchohol" is allowed to bring into Thailand? In many country that means over 22 volym%. Is it same in Thailand? Can I bring in 2 liter wine too and some beer?

Thanks

I think the answer you are looking for has already been answered. But in case you are really dense...

1 liter of anything = 1 liter. Thailand is not interested in whether you bring in a beverage with 1% alcohol or 100%. The max you can bring in of any liquid substance containing alcohol (a.k.a spirits, wine or beer) is 1 liter.

So if you think you can bring in 2 1/2 bottles of Bacardi because each 1 liter bottle has 40% alcohol then you are wrong!

Anyone know how much duty you would pay for one carton of cigaretts, which are above the limit? I notice they reduced the amount allowed to one carton, from the previous two allowed. My favorites are not available for sale in Thailand.

Wonder how long it will be before one of the Anti Smoking Brigade jump in and offer their "advice"

Oh your favourites are not for sale in Thailand, poor you, maybe I won't have to suffer the second hand smoke from your favourite brand, make do with local cancer sticks.

There, didn't have to wait long. :o

Yes, the anti smokers pretty much have got their way with no indoor smoking in many places, which is OK. What I do outside should be up to me. If they don't like it they can move. Drinking & smoking in moderation is the key. Now smoking is out and fat is in. So, tell me where have the healthcare savings been realized.

If I remember correctly lad brought in 2-3 cartons over the limit and he got socked 20k on the spot. :o

At that point I'd tell customs to go puff themselves.

I don't think he got the option. From what I remember of the thread the choice was either to pay up or to go and sit in a Customs office until he paid up.
