This girl who sold Pyjamas got what's called a "Border Pass", because she lived in a bordering region which abutts Thailand. They do work related border passes for up to 30 days, then they just run back, which is a very short trip and come back into Thailand. It's not a mini van trip of hours, but only takes 30 minutes or so, depending where they live. The downside is that these border regions are rough and in the rainy season they can be stuck there a few days. Their apartments always flood from what I was told.

 

You may want to check if the Phuket Burmese have a work permit or came on a tourist visa. If they didn't sort out the visa situation they'll be running back to Mynamar a lot.

 

I actually met another one, this one was a high class Burmese girl, very pretty, who worked as a journalist and lived in a nice house in the Mae Sot area. There's different social classes among the Burmese as well. She invited me to come down for a date to Mae Sot, but I researched and found out that police is a bit wild west there and so I passed. I'm not above travelling to Bangkok for box but staying in a nice hotel there is not the same as a slog drive to Maesot to deal with Cowboy police and stay in inferior hotels.

 

Anyway, you can take your pick on TF from Burmese girls, they're all over Thailand.

I know what you mean, that pyjama seller looked rather sturdy too. But that journalist in Maesot was fairly feminine. You can just pick them out of TF like from a catalogue and fly them to Phuket. Since you're in Phuket you have even more of a draw. Beach.

Down here in Phuket, I do know a Burmese couple and she is a chef and her husband is the head gardener in a 5 star hotel, she also does some cleaning on her day off,

The ones I know here in Phuket are a pretty legal they have to go to the immigration i think every 90 days, but once a year have to go to Ranong, but the immigration don't do it in one day so they end up sleeping along the road, I'll have to ask her if they still do it, I know they have a work permit, I think it's not the same as a farang WP, if you think we farang get messed about, they take the piss out of Burmese, 

The police are even worse with them, they will stop them and take money off them,

During my work in Burma I've been 'approached' by many young Burmese women.  But I guess it's more to do with the need for money, rather than any romantic aspect.  I've never taken up their offers since it would be unprofessional as a teacher. (Teachers are regarded in high status in Myanmar, as are eldery people - that makes me extremely-respected!!)

 

Concerning the tanakha on their faces, many of the young boys in my classes go for the all-in painting, (as in that photo of Malaysia).  A bit scary first thing in the morning!!  Teen boys usually paint it like war paint.  The young girls paint Minnie Mouse patterns with a touch of tanakha on the end of their noses 🙂
