Motorists on Bangkok’s Suwinthawong Road were treated to an unusual spectacle, when a pickup truck managed to climb up and onto roadside cables.

The incident occurred at about 09.35 on 17 August, shortly after the Luang Phraeng and Mahanakhon intersections near Soi Suwinthawong 60. According to police, the driver stated he swerved and braked sharply after a motorbike cut him up, only for the slippery road surface to betray him. The truck skidded into a lamp post and somehow ended up perched at an improbable angle, with its rear wheels dangling aloft on the cables.

Passers-by reportedly did double-takes, wondering whether the driver had been auditioning for the next instalment of Fast & Furious: Bangkok Drift. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt, although the driver may be suffering from a bruised ego after explaining to officers just how his vehicle came to imitate a stunt show.

Police are still on the lookout for the mystery motorcyclist who sparked the chain of events, perhaps wisely making themselves scarce before anyone asked for their side of the story.

I'd be taking a selfie too, if I was that cop 🙂

Judging by the level of spacial awareness demonstrated by many motorcyclists here, I wonder if he/she/they are even aware of the carnage they initiated.

I await any dashcam / CCTV footage with bated breath.

Since Thailand refuses to do anything to enforce road rules/laws, and has blatantly ignored and lied to the WHO about fixing it, they should be banned from the IDP system, and they should not be allowed to drive in any other country unless licensed in that country. Force their hand, and make them lose 'face' in the international community, then maybe they'll get the message.
