A 50-year-old man has been rescued after falling into an abandoned well, around 15 metres deep in Ban Wang Pla Fa, Ban Chan subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani district.

The incident happened at approximately 09:00 on 24 August. The Udon Thani Thammasongkroh Rescue Foundation received an emergency call reporting the fall and immediately dispatched a team of rescue vehicles and volunteers to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescuers discovered the man trapped at the bottom of the disused well. Using a rope rescue system, the team carefully lowered equipment and personnel, in breathing apparatus, into the narrow shaft before safely lifting the injured man back to the surface.

Once freed, the man was handed over to the Ban Chan municipal emergency medical unit, who transported him to Udon Thani Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities have since urged local residents to exercise caution around abandoned wells and boreholes, particularly those without or unsecure coverings, to prevent further incidents.

15 metres is a long way down!

Maybe there was some water at the bottom of the well, which reduced the impact.
