Russian army losses

Earlier today, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) released footage showing Ukrainian special forces carrying out a series of successful strikes on Russian airfields. These attacks destroyed or damaged 15 aircraft, causing over $1 billion in losses and weakening Russia's strikes on Ukraine.

Five Russian military airfields used for aviation basing were hit.

Among the destroyed and damaged equipment were 11 fighters and bombers, including Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-27, Su-24, MiG-31, one transport plane (An-26), and three helicopters (Mi-28, Mi-26, and Mi-8).

He was cut off, and arrested. So I don't think its grounds for hope that the Russians have come to their senses. Russia has become a servant economy to China. China buys raw materials from Russia, at a discount, because Russia doesn't have any other customers of significance now. China then makes raw materials into goods, adds value, and profits.

Ukraine and Sweden discussed providing Kyiv with new military assistance, including the future delivery of Gripen fighter jets and long-range air-defense Meteor missiles, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said Sweden is preparing one of the largest military aid packages for Ukraine. It will include air-defense systems, Saab radars, electronic warfare systems, and drones, including those capable of deep-strike missions.

Separately, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov discussed several key issues with his Swedish counterpart Pål Jonson, including:

・Countering ballistic missiles through the PURL program

・Launching the Brave-Sweden defense innovation program (modeled after Ukraine's Brave1)

The Gripen of becoming a very popular plane. Does its performance warrant this, or just its price? (I don't know the answer)

No expert in military here. I think the Gripen offers interceptor ability minus stealth and other features of the US made jets. Also minus a very much higher price tag and maintenance cost. It's pretty clear the F22 rules the sky but at a massive cost. In many cases unless you are facing a nation with F22s the Gripen probably works just fine.

The gripen is gaining popularity as nobody wants to deal with the US.

That's stupid.

The USA can ALREADY build all the bases it wants there.

Denmark is in NATO.

The NATO alliance includes the USA for DEFENSE against Russia.

Canada is closer to the North Pole than Greenland!

Maybe that is why he wants Canada!

Greenland and Canada are geographically close to the North Pole. The nearest point in Canada is approximately 817 km (508 mi) from the North Pole. In contrast, Greenland is about 1,200 km (748 mi) from the North Pole.

Russia is being forced to sell its oil at a discount as recent U.S. economic sanctions begin to take effect.

Some shipments sent to India contained barrels priced between $22 and $25, as Moscow cannot afford to leave its production unsold despite the sharp drop in prices.

Revenue from gas and oil sales accounts for a significant portion of the country’s GDP and also helps fund the war effort in Ukraine.

India has recently reduced its purchases of Russian oil to lower U.S. tariffs on Indian products. The White House has indicated that the 25% tariffs imposed on India for buying Russian oil could be lifted.

Keep in mind as stated before this topic is NOT a prediction assertion that EITHER side will win this war.

This war because of drones has evolved into something new in military history.

I happen to agree with this Russian politician who although he is a Z fascist doesn't believe EITHER side can "win" this war in the conventional military sense.

Sure it will "end" someday and somehow of course.

We know Putin's maximalist (and impossible without nukes) goal is to erase Ukraine as a sovereign nation.

Ukraine's goal at this point I see as quite reasonable but given the enemy still quite difficult.

A sovereign Ukraine within less than borders than before but with rock solid guarantees that the Russians won't be invading again and the world can safely come in to help rebuild and invest for a prosperous and peaceful future.

Well lets be honest. If it actually comes to that Canada needs a whole lot more than a few fighter jets.

I don't see the relationship between USA and Canada ever falling to military contest. Too much intertwined business, culture and history. Just because the current leader of Canada is far left and USA has Trump doesn't change the PEOPLE of both nations have similar characters.

Was discussing this subject last night with a Canadian guy who was very up to speed on the issue, and he made several very good points. The F35 is a single engine jet with limited range compared to the Gripen for use covering wide area. Canada doesn't do inflight refueling. Also the operating costs are massively different. I can see why logically, not current anti-American sentiment, might result in getting the Gripen. Especially since if Russia for some really unseen reason invades Canada USA would send F22s up there in a heartbeat.

Carney is hardly far left. He's s successful business person with an established professional career, not a corrupt con artist sales scum like the one in the White House.

A high-profile general in Russia's military has been shot several times and wounded in Moscow.

Lt Gen Vladimir Alexeyev was immediately taken to hospital after the attack in a residential block of flats on the north-western outskirts of the Russian capital and his condition is unknown.

Alexeyev is number two in the main directorate of Russia's GRU military intelligence and the latest high-ranking military figure to have been targeted in the capital since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began almost four years ago.

He was placed under European Union and UK sanctions, external after the GRU was accused of being behind the 2018 nerve agent attack in Salisbury in the UK.
