Police have issued a summons for a foreign tourist accused of illegally entering Khao Kheow Open Zoo at night, in a case that has raised concerns over visitor safety and animal welfare.

The incident came to light after the zoo, located in Si Racha District, released a statement on 15 August confirming that a tourist had sneaked into the premises after closing hours. The unauthorised entry, officials said, violated zoo regulations and posed risks both to the individual and to the animals housed there.

Following a police complaint lodged by zoo management, authorities have now issued a formal summons for the suspect, who was not named. According to a letter released by the zoo, the tourist is required to appear and hear the charges on 1 September 2025, after the summons was issued on 22 August.

In its letter to the public, Khao Kheow Open Zoo stressed that it was taking the matter seriously, both legally and administratively. A fact-finding committee has been appointed to investigate how the breach occurred and to recommend stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Zoo officials also reassured the public that safety remains their top priority:

“We are determined to strengthen security and will continue to closely monitor legal proceedings. We will keep the public updated on any further developments,” the letter stated.

The zoo expressed gratitude for the concern and support it has received from visitors and the wider community, saying such encouragement was “an important driving force” in its efforts to improve safety and overall standards.
