Elephant Causes Panic After Crossing from Cambodia to Buriram

Residents in Ban Kruat district, Buriram province, were left in shock after a wild elephant wandered into their area, a location where such sightings are rare.

The elephant, a male aged around 40–45 years, has been named “Si Do Du” by locals due to its habit of destroying homes, crops, and rubber trees.

Reports suggest that the elephant crossed into Ban Kruat after being displaced from its usual habitat. Cambodian soldiers stationed along the border are said to have remained in position, preventing wildlife, including the elephant, from accessing its traditional feeding grounds. As a result, the elephant was forced to move into Thai territory in search of food.

Local authorities, led by Ban Kruat District Chief Mr Ekawat Phuangprakon, have urged villagers near the sighting area to exercise extreme caution. Public announcements have been made via loudspeakers to ensure residents remain vigilant.

The elephant’s presence has raised concerns among farmers, as it has already caused damage to cassava fields, rubber plantations and other crops in the area. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further incidents.

Cambodian elephant seeking political asylum in Thailand?

Oh Man...the immigration must have dispatched their Special Investigation Cell to identify and deport the illegal worker, eating and stealing leaves reserved for the Thai elephants only.

Arrest that elephant. It´s a spy!
