65,000 Income problem with Wise

And therin lies the problem.
It was paid out by Wise Kasikorn account and forwarded to the OP's Bangkok bank account.

Happened to me ONCE in years. Go to Kasikorn for a Credit Advice slip, or you could just hope that your IO doesn't see it, or can't be arsed to do anything.

  • Check the code on your official statement it will show X888994 or MCL 1010### this shows bank using A P I system for internal transfer of funds from overseas.   SCB have shown this for the last few ye

  • You go to your bank and get a credit advice showing the true source of the funds as international.  Not a huge deal.

  • Looks like you maybe made it in just before the change and the OP just missed it.   International Transfer on the website or app is the same as FTT in the passbook.

In which case Wise now need IMHO to spell out as a matter or urgency how one goes about obtaining a credit advice note from them, as they've already done in the case of Kasikorn (plus Bangkok Bank and, mysteriously, SCB who've never been an agent bank of theirs to the best of my knowledge):

I don't think they can as the credit advice note is a Thai bank thing and Tranglo are not based in Thailand.  Hopefully they have something equivalent but it might need someone to go down that route to find out what if Wise don't tell us.

Agree about SCB.  TMB were a partner in the distant past and Deemoney more recently until their issues.

It's sort of got me thinking after this balls up , which is the best way

1. Leave 800k sat in the bank for years earning 0.9%

(Which in my case , i still have it in the Krungsri bank as a back up)

2. Keep transferring in 65k a month through Wise , which is now really to unreliable as not guaranteed to show International Transfer

3. Start using Thai Visa.com and pay 14,000 a year , which now seems to be the cheapest option as can send the 800k back to the UK and earn 3.75% on Wise interest

You've had one issue in how many transfers?
Did you call Kasikorn helpline as I advised?

Wise cannot and never have guaranteed transfers will be reflected as International, which largely depends on Thai banks and how they process these remittances.
800K sat in the bank is something to fall back on if needed.

I have been using Wise (Transferwise) for many years, initially using monthly 65,000 Baht for Retirement extensions with my funds being "tagged" as being for Immigration.  But, one time, the monthly funds didn't come into my Bangkok Bank account as "International".  Since that time some 3-4 years ago I send my funds through Wise using the SWIFT system.  Each transfer costs $31.42 (irrespective of the amount) but the funds always come in as "International".  The exchange rate is the same level as if I had used my previous transfer system.  It usually takes 1-3 days for the funds to arrive when using "SWIFT".

So, sending via Wise "SWIFT" is another option, if the $31.42 monthly cost is worth it in order to always have the funds come in as "International".

I had the same problem for the first time as mentioned by the person that started this Post for an amount around 45000 THB which has now been referenced by Bangkok Bank as  "Deposit/Transfer via e-Channels"  instead of the normal  "International Transfer" I have no idea why.

I dont need to show Immigration my bank accounts however I do need show the tax office so I will print out the Wise transfer documents that clearly show under the reference Section PENSION TO LIVE ON IN THAILAND.

Yes I did go to Kasikorn bank and they were helpful and emailed me the credit advice , but its absolutely useless as it states it was a NBD , no book deposit and Purpose Tourist Expenses.

Apparently now , there are many other people coming forward with this exact same issue, Bangkok Bank call center apologised saying they have changed the way funds received from Wise are paid out as from sometime in August.

So I will now abort the 65k transfers and use the 800k way as my extension renews in March

IMHO it should be Wise apologising to you for their bungling incompetence and ineptitude in this instance, not Bangkok Bank.

At least you can count yourself lucky that you do have this 800k fallback option! Many others reliant on the 65k monthly income method through Wise transfers may not be in quite such a fortunate position.

There is, however, another option open to American and British holders of Bangkok Bank accounts, and that is to make transfers through Bangkok Bank's New York or London branches:

https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-US-to-Thailand-via-Bangkok-Bank-NewYork-branch

https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-UK-to-Thailand-via-London-Branch

As I recall from using this facility myself way back when in the pre-Wise era, the International Transfer/FTT coding is assured if you opt to have the conversion-to-THB performed at the Bangkok end (but not if you choose to have it performed pre-transfer in New York or London).

The 2pm settlement at Bangkok Bank is a manual process there, i would ask them why things have changed, maybe they've fired that person and no one is covering

You needed to request a 'Confirmation letter of International Fund Transfer', as I previously stated, not a CAR.

A print-out receipt of your Wise transaction will provide evidence it was an International transfer.
