The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) announced on 30 August, the arrest of the ringleader of an online gambling group known as “Sichon Sib Taem”, which had been live-streaming illegal betting games.

Pol Lt Gen Trirong Piewphan, Commissioner of the CCIB, together with senior officers Pol Maj Gen Supakorn Piuaon, Pol Col Natthawut Chomchoei and Pol Col Sutthichai Tienpho, revealed details of the operation at a press briefing in Muang Thong Thani.

According to investigators, officers had been monitoring a LINE chat group suspected of hosting various forms of gambling, including hi-lo, poker, the card game “sib taem” (ten points), cockfighting and bullfighting. After weeks of surveillance, police secured sufficient evidence to obtain a search warrant.

Armed with Warrant No. 11/2568 issued by Surat Thani Provincial Court, cyber police raided a property in Moo 5, Bang Kung sub-district, Muang Surat Thani. Inside, they arrested 26-year-old Mr Jitti, also known as “Prite” and seized a large haul of gambling and broadcasting equipment.

The confiscated items included three laptop computers, two routers, eight mobile phones, a ledger recording illegal sib taem betting, live-streaming gear such as cameras, tripods and lighting, a gaming table with felt coverings, five digital clocks, over 40 decks of playing cards and a Hikvision DVR system used to record broadcasts.

Mr Jitti admitted ownership of the seized equipment and confessed to running the online gambling ring. He told police he acted as group administrator for the “Sichon Sib Taem” LINE community, where members placed bets on the card game. A separate chat group, “Sichon Sib Taem Deposits and Withdrawals”, was used for money transfers.

He further confessed that he personally acted as the live dealer, streaming games to participants. The operation had been running for more than three months. Mr Jitti claimed he was paid around 12,000 baht per month by a shadowy employer who oversaw the gambling network.

Police are now expanding the investigation to identify other members of the syndicate, including the financiers behind the operation. Financial records will also be scrutinised, with a view to seizing and freezing assets linked to the crimes.

Mr Jitti has been charged with organising unauthorised gambling activities, promoting gambling through electronic media and unlawfully using another person’s electronic card in a way that could cause harm to individuals or the public. He has been handed over to investigators for prosecution.
