So if I don't get nothing from the bank till now, should be fine?

"To perform Thai phone verification with a bank account, ensure your phone number's registered name matches your bank account...... failure to do so can lead to mobile banking service suspension, per a regulation effective February 1, 2025, with a compliance deadline of April 30, 2025" Thank you.

Old news, hopefully you finally accept you need to ensure your sim is registered correctly

If you originally registered the sim in your name and had that sim when you set up mobile banking, you should be ok.

There you go. You don't use the bank app. You don't have to do anything.

TBH I use it only for verify if my money came in: not every month, but sometimes when I am far from the nearest ATM 90+ km. But never used it to transfer even 1 THB.

Do you mean you just use a web app or go to the branch for everything?

About 2 years ago TTB shut down their web app forcing everyone to use the phone app or go to a branch.

As much as I hate phone apps, the inconvenience of going to a branch was a non starter but it is like wading into a swamp. Just gets deeper and deeper and sooner or later someone will drown in the name of progress.

This message has appeared on my phone.

I mean the ttb touch bank application. I never transferred even one thb with them. When I am far from the nearest ATM I download it to verify if my money come in. After that I will uninstall it. I got the same message on the app. Need it if you need to transfer more than 50.000 THB per day.

Well, downloading, using, uninstalling, rinse and repeat.... Sounds like you indeed are using the mobile app.

I would like to point out the stupidity of some agencies in Thailand in regards to the SIM issue, have been withe same bank for over 10 years, using regularly on line banking, my sim card was registered with True, all of a sudden received an message from the bank telling me my on line banking is closed/blocked, went to the branch to investigate and the funny thing is a very funny one, so stupid that's difficult to believe but had to comply, my bank account(s) books and cards all registered starting with my last name and the registration at True started with my first name and that was confusing/conflicting for them, had to go to True and asked for them to change my SIM card name to start with my last name, never had this problem before, thus for me this was a stupid request, waste of time and energy

If download it without transfer any money means using it, so I am using it. But I never transferred a single satang.

You must be lucky to have a branch or atm's nearby. I live out in the sticks and neither are readily available. I have to go to the hospital on Wed so will try and get to the branch then.

If it was just about limits I wouldn't bother but the message says also required for app reinstalls or new device. With my phone coming to the end of it's working life, only a question of now or later.

I have been with them 25 years and the computer was never a problem, didn't sit well being forced on to the phone.

Normally I am near an ATM of "my" bank. But sometimes I am far from the nearest ATM 100+100 km and if it's a period of salary I download the app. just for check it. Never transferred a single satang.

Different people, different circumstances. If there is no need to pay anyone there is no need to transfer.

You may find installing the app more problematic if there is no workaround for the facial recognition issue.

if your bank doesn't have your correct phone number, how would they notify you?

They have my correct phone number: updated twice in the past 3 years.

Then, if your bank has your correct phone number, what's the problem you're worried about? Unless, of course, your SIM card is regerstered to a different name than your bank account...

What worries me is that the bank has my number, which matches my name, surname, and date of birth: but the number is registered with my old passport, while the bank already has the new one. The nearest SIM provider is 100+100 km away from where I am, and I won't be in the city before September 10th.

I am with BBL and my passport number does not match and I have had no issues. The SIM is registered to my previous passport that expired eight years ago. The bank has my current passport and my previous four passports on file. I suspect things are being done in the usual bureaucratic way where each branch of each bank applies different requirements for each customer.

Well, I can only say my personal SIM number is over 20 years old, and my bank account is over 15 years old. I've had about four new passports since I bought the SIM, but I do have to update my bank account when I get a new passport, only when I'm applying for documents for a one-year stay extension.

Did you update the passport at your SIM provider?

Same here with TTB bank.

Yes I have a few times, so get a new SIM for the increased speed. then, they did ask for my passport and had to update it in their system.

Went into my bbl branch last week to make sure all was good. The guy there said that there are 700 account holders at that branch that are on a verification list and I wasn’t on the list and nothing to worry about. He also mentioned that he  attempts to call about 20 of those account holders every night after work and is unable to get a hold of most.

Then off to Kbank to make sure all is good. She wanted to update all my information which hasn’t changed since last year when I went in to do the face recognition thing, she did a new face recognition thing and canceled my passbook and issued me a new passbook with the same account number, though the new book had a set of numbers printed inside that wasn’t there in the old book where there was none and only had one page that was used since it’s primarily used as an app transfer account. She wasn’t at all talkative, so I have no idea why they issued me a new book.

I don't think it's professional that he attempts to call bank customers at night after work, presumably from his mobile phone. Many scammers operate just like that.

I wouldn't entertain any discussion with someone who claims to be a bank employee but doesn't call me from the bank's landline number during business hours. There's a good chance that I wouldn't even answer the phone.

As I've said before and as others have also noted, the standard of training and professional conduct of some Bangkok Bank employees appears to be quite shocking nowadays.

Don’t most businesses use cell phones?

He said that a lot of the people that he had got a hold of were out of the country and most of those were Chinese. He also mentioned that the most difficult people were the ones that couldn’t speak English. In any case, this situation requires the account holders to be proactive regardless of who’s at fault and complaining offers no remedy.

In that case you need to get them both aligned with each other on the basis of your existing passport number.

Why? The name on my SIM matches the name on my account. My mobile app works fine and I am not restricted to transfers of 50,000 or less.
