Thailand's baht is facing increased volatility this week, driven by domestic political unrest and speculation over an impending US interest rate cut. The baht is projected to fluctuate between 31.80 and 32.80 baht per US dollar, according to Kasikorn Research Center (K-Research).

Thailand's political landscape is a focal point as the House of Representatives gears up to elect a new prime minister. The political scene has been tumultuous, particularly after the Constitutional Court's dismissal of former premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The court's decision followed the leak of a phone call between Shinawatra and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, adding to the instability.

As K-Research highlighted, "The uncertain political outlook in Thailand might lead to short-term foreign capital outflows." Last week, foreign investors sold Thai equities worth 12.3 billion baht, although the bond market saw a net inflow of 2.62 billion baht.

Monday saw the baht opening at 32.32 against the dollar, marginally stronger than its performance last week. This slight appreciation coincides with the US dollar's weakening. Krungthai Global Markets attributes this to market apprehensions about potential interference in the US Federal Reserve's activities, impacting investor expectations of a Fed interest rate cut.

Poon Panitchpibun, a money market strategist at Krungthai Global Markets, stated, "We expect the baht to remain volatile, moving between 32.00 and 32.75 this week."

Analysts are keeping a close eye on Thailand's political developments, with the possibility of a new government formation or even a fresh election by the year's end or early 2026. The unfolding situation is crucial for determining future economic policies.

Krungsri Global Markets has predicted the baht will trade within a range of 32.00–32.65 against the US dollar this week, compared to 32.27–32.56 last week. The anticipated volatility stems from domestic political chaos and the Fed's likely policy changes. Additionally, upcoming economic data from both Thailand and the US could play a significant role.

Investors remain cautious, observing the evolving dynamics as Thailand navigates both political and economic challenges. With the Fed possibly shifting its policy in response to external pressures, including those from US President Donald Trump, all eyes are on how these factors will converge to impact the baht's trajectory.

This week promises to be crucial for Thailand's markets, as stakeholders await signals from both domestic fronts and international developments.

It's about time the baht drops  drops by 10 to 15%. It's grossly overvalued. And likely artificially so.

Volatility? The baht has been rock solid and even the predicted “volatile range” is next to nothing. Going to 30 or to 34 would be volatility. The range suggested in the article is nothing out of the ordinary.

And they seem to be suggesting a slight firming of the baht, given the quoted range. Since when did uncertainty cause the value of anything to rise?

At this moment per XE.COM the exchange is...32.36..rock bottom still.

There's no speculation as long as Powell remains Chairman.

There is speculation that inflation in the US by end of 2025 will reach 3.5%.

Lots of bad news here in Thailand,  Thai Baht had been surprisingly strong against USD for the past 5-6 months.

ASEAN members criticized it had been artificial and manipulated ???

Who Manipulated ?   Nobody dares to answer.

Yes, it's already getting much stronger! 😆

If the domestic political unrest persists, or, god forbid, gets worse, who knows how high the baht will fly...
