Varies greatly from person to person. Some 81 year olds are still very fit, both physically and mentallly, while others should not be allowed to ride or drive vehicles. A better idea would be to introduce annual testing for those over a certain age. Won't happen though.

It did have a sidecar attached so would make it safer, at his age, A few weeks ago I was sat in the car waiting for my wife at Makro and I watched this farang hobbling across the car park he could bairly walk and and he got on a motorbike, I thought that was dangerous,

Rubbish. Nothing is an 'invitation to theft'. Theft remains a criminal offense as far as I recall.

Many expat snowbirds leave vehicles for long periods of time without any issues. Sensible parking is obviously a prerequisite.

Rubbish? Well why was it nicked then?

And you specifically say “ sensible parking” and this clearly wasn’t it. Perhaps I should have said “ left it parked for a month outside on waste ground” but I think it was clear where it was left from both the article and picture.

I leave my cars and motorbikes parked while I am away for a month ……safely parked inside my secure property.

Leaving a motorbike parked on waste ground for a month is nothing less than an invitation to theft. And the very subject of the article proves my point…. His bike WAS pinched.

Alcohol can do that to some people.🙃🙃

And there it was gone! I know how he feels. I had my combination stolen in London way back in 1960. I wanted to take my three children to see their grandmother on Mother's Day. Looked out of the window and yep. There it was gone. The bastards!

Wow. Are you 90+ years of age?  That was 65 years ago.

He should do cross words but not riding a bike. Shape and keeping fit is one thing, but safety and common sense another.

Now he's pedestrian. Very safe 👍

To be fair, he obviously doesn’t use it much. Hasn’t used it at all for the last month. Probably a left over from his younger days but he likes to think he still has it to use if he wants to do so. But in reality never will.

I have a Harley Davidson that I keep because it makes me feel good to know I have it, in reality it’s far to heavy for me to actually ever ride it again.

Its an aging thing 😂

You sound like one of those who would accuse scantily dressed ladies of inviting rape/sexual assault.

The point that you badly missed was that - a crime is crime,

And sensible precautions are….sensible precautions.

In the UK they used to have what were called Crime Prevention Officers. They would even come to your house and give advice on how to prevent crime against your property. I don’t ever recall that they would say “ don’t bother to take sensible precautions, a crime is a crime and we’ll just catch them after the crime is committed.”

I fail to see the relevance of your analogy. We are talking about a motorbike being stolen, are we not?

So, let’s recap.

A crime is a crime. Correct. The police should catch and prosecute criminals.

The victim was stupid to leave his apparently precious (to him) motorbike unattended, for a period of a month, on seemingly public ground, out in full view. Metaphorically speaking ( a concept seemingly hard for some to understand) it was akin to an invitation for criminals to steal it.

And lo and behold, they did.

Don't get me wrong, the victim should have made a better job of finding a secure location to store his vehicle. BUT he is still the victim of theft - that was my only point.

I see. Private land open to access by the public. In detail you are right, in concept it makes no difference to a pretty open invitation for theft.

I mean, I’m not suggesting these crooks should be found and punished, of course they should. And I’m sorry he had his bike nicked, just he didn’t do much to keep it safe and so the criminals who live in his area said thanks very much.
