Barr estimated the incident cost him approximately £2,500, leaving him both financially and emotionally distressed.

"Financially distressed" .. and yet the urge to fly to Phukit was overwhelming...

There are nice hikes in Scotland, for real men.

Pretty sure flags are raised at check in as otherwise how would they enforce no fly restrictions as anyone banned from flying could just get on any plane to anywhere.

Maybe not, as reported * stolen*. He was not flagged a wanted man by police or tax evasion.

Forgetting the ability for somebody other than the passport holder to be able to report it as stolen, the article says she reported it last October?  So almost one year later he was still able to travel just recently?  The flight into DOHA had no issues and he was able to board and continue onto Phuket?  Actually the article doesn't seem to state when he did travel.  Based on the legal things and investigations it mentioned, this was not a very recent trip

Exactly! How did he get on the plane in the UK? The flight to HKT and back would really suck.

Her financial hardship meant compensation was limited to £500.

How can the compensation be limited to £500 ?

Because she pleaded broke, no money! It's so wrong. If she is on benifit then the £2500 should be paid to him with the money being deducted each week/month from her payment. She should not get away with this for a meer £500!

Who is "Big Brother "? Not to UK immigration, it’s to notify the authorities at the destination.

Maybe before Lockerbie and 9/11.  They should have flagged a "stolen passport" and stopped him from boarding, and that's not related to immigration.

(Or, God forbid, he may have posted something mean on the interwebs)

Here's the puzzler for me, from the OP:  She confessed, attributing her actions to resentment, claiming, “He left her kids.” Although aware of her error, Wood felt powerless to reverse the consequences.

Were they just "her kids"? or were they his, too?  And were there any issues of child support?

If she had said "He left their kids" then that would be a different story.  That's why there is no mention of child support.  So what if he had left her with her kids from her previous relationship. He didn't bring in the kids into this world. He broke up with her and after a unspecifiied period of time  decided to go to Thailand. Why would you bring along an ex-partner. The relationship was over.

It's still a puzzler to me, but I'm a Yank and don't know British family law.  There have been cases where judges in the USA have imposed child support on men when the kids weren't theirs biologically.  Something about the courts doing what's best for the kids regardless of fairness to the man.  Especially if the woman is destitute like she apparently is.  And there's also the possibility that he legally adopted "her kids".

Lots of unanswered questions in the OP story...  Including timing.  When did she rat him out?

Good question.

If the kids are his and he has abandoned them, without support.

Then he doesn't deserve any sympathy.

Som Nom Nah.

I'm guessing she had access to his online passport application account, she may have even done the online application herself, he may not of been computer literate.

Date of cancellation and travel date in the story could have helped clarify speculation about  the UK passport control dropping the ball, procedures lacking or not even knowing about a 'stolen' passport at the time of his departure.

Either way, what an evil beetch.

Eeh! How can it be great to bonk 50 girls just because a broken reletionship?

Is this a rhetorical question, like the famous quote:

"And how can man die better than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his gods in Soi Cowboy"

I think he should count his blessings, to be away from this woman, imagine living with her, don’t look back get as far away from this woman as you can

Trump is due in the U.K. on a state visit in a couple of weeks so I've just cancelled his passport. 🙂

On returning home, Barr sought police intervention. Investigators connected the fraudulent report to Wood's internet account, substantiating her involvement. She confessed, attributing her actions to resentment, claiming, “He left her kids.” Although aware of her error, Wood felt powerless to reverse the consequences.

He left "HER" kids. So why does that make him responsible for her kids. What is the kid's father doing. As distressing as it was I would say that the was money well spent getting rid if her. Think what it would have cost him in the long run.

She needs a marker put on her. There should be a database that men can check before forming any sort of relationship. And vice versa.

Can’t believe the number of posters saying passport isn’t checked on way out, many reasons, may be a wanted criminal, red checked by interpol, owing huge amount on child support, court ordered while awaiting trial, etc!

Seriously? after costing him thousands, not including the anguish and lost time, all she has to pay back is 500? way to "discourage" the next one. Absolutely amazing that she could even pull this off - definitely a broken system if a person other than the passport owner can report it stolen. There is an important lesson here though: keep your privacy. Things like passport numbers, bank accounts, ID number, etc can be used against you. There is no valid reason to let a woman know these things - not even (especially not) your partner. The less they know the less they'll hurt you if they go psycho.

She done something nasty to her ex and they were finished. Not right I can just imagine when he is back in the uk he will get his revenge in one way or another and she will deserve  that

It's a bit concerning that the Phuket immigration system functions better than at Edinburgh and Doha - what's the world coming to? :coffee1:

He only transited Doha. It was the UK Passport Office that had the weak system that allowed this to happen. No surprise when the gov in that country is more concerned with sticking it's nose in everyone else's business. Shutdown MI-6 then concern itself with fixing its own problems.

Thats the question we all wants an answer to…..?

Can anyone else(other than the passport holder)  report it was stolen, by UK law?

Looks too far too dangerous; malicious third party can forward a false request for voiding a current passport.

Yes, it is.

And you're from Dorset Street, Spitalfields ???😂

Thinking about this case .... perhaps she used his name and knew his email details and passport number to make the report?  That's why it needed an investigation to discover it was her.

So it's a case of identity theft rather than anyone being able to cancel another person's passport ..... I hope.

But even so ..... it would not be difficult to get these details, especially in Thailand where we need to provide passport copies to do everything.
