When I got an STD the doctor was a woman.

I assume my dentist was educated.

i can’t think of any others off the top of my head but I think there might be a few others.

I am pretty sure the doctor wasnt interested in a relationship with me.

Almost certainly not if you went to her sporting a dose!

  • What if you marry an educated professional with a great job and investment skills? I have bought my wife gifts, taken her on holidays but have never given or even thought about giving her an allowance

At the root, most of the money stuff is about control. It's getting people to do what you want on some level.

Even with free gifts, it's never really free. It creates obligations and ties to the giver.

Gee, where do I start?

So instead of just criticizing why don’t you add to the topic what you have personally seen?

Gee whiz, as it's your thread you could start by actually providing something about your personal situation rather than just more avoidance

I don't cater to people like you looking for content to ridicule.

Yeah so what do you recommend? Going 50-50 on everything?

I paid for the mustard last week, now it's your turn to pay for the ketchup.

You can't do 50-50 if one person is wealthier then the other. One person will want some expensive wine, the other soda water.

The solution is finding somebody who is not there for the money and keeping your assets seperate.

That way, when you are eating lobster and they have rice, it does not matter because you would be eating that anyway if you never met.

If you want to share once in awhile it's Ok, but it's never an issue because that's not why you are there.

That's very true, Mauss wrote the famous book this subject "The spirit of the gift"

Still, it's very imperfect control, ultimately you can't control a liar and a cheater.

Control,

I want young and attractive women to have sex with me.

My employer wanted me to sit in a chair for 12hrs every day.

Without money, I wouldn't have been sitting in that chair, and they wouldn't have had sex with me.

Unless you're super rich life is mostly about earning money to survive.

Yep, I've pimped myself off to employers more than a few times, having 30+ jobs.  Want to pay the mortgage & eat, then you work for what is offered, until you don't have to.

Some of these gals are obviously desperate, and can't think of or able to do something else.  Some just lazy, and some like getting paid for getting their freak on.   It's a mixed bag.

Wish someone paid me for sex when I was in my 20s  :cheesy:

There is a gay scene in Pattaya where in your 20s you probably could have found work serving the old queens.

You should seek psychological assistance as you obviously have obsessions regarding those of us married to Thai women.  If in Chiang Mai, you should consider checking yourself into Suan Prung Hospital for observation and mental health counseling.

I think I might marry one one day so the more information I can glean from those who have tread this path already the better.

Yep, that also a good one that can give you a high heel in your forehead. 😉

I gave her just around 6-7k a month too but at that time she still worked herself, since we got kids she does not so she gets 20k a month. I still pay on top of this all rent, school, extra outgoings, family visits and whatever else more.

I actually noticed the same, many bar hoppers that try to get a girlfriend out of it, are super stingy and cheap, in my 12 years experience. Then again this are in many cases people who live here on a shoe string budget too (e.g. retired with 50k a month), in that case there is not much to give a girlfriend to begin with.

Yes from what I have seen also.

Makes me think that is half or most of the reason they didn’t have success in the normal dating pool.
Stingy people are never fun to be around.

You think there's a dating pool for pensioners?

Looking for women in their 30s?

50k/month = 5x a chain store workers wage.

Most Thai couples manage on less than half that amount ........

Jeez, the number of foreigners that have no idea what local people live on.

I live on 50k/month,

That's enough for the mortgage on a 3 bed house, a nearly new car, and the school fees for my son and one of his pals, with money to spare.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing earlier. Thai couples must be living on a lot less.

The problem is people are always comparing themselves to other people.

Some foreigners who don't even live in Thailand full-time are probably sending 30-40K per month and the girls all talk to each other. And then there are the guys buying the big mansions in the sticks.

And some guys renting fancy condos for 30K + .... I don't want to waste so much money on rent personally.  And sit around the condo pool with a bunch of other farangs and their gfs. I am not interested in that.

A lot western guys splashing their money around are raising the standards of what Thai women expect from foreign men. They know a lot of foreign men have more, so they will expect more.

Not always. Just a generalization.

You never go anywhere, you always eat home, you live in the middle of nowhere, the school is not even a proper billingual let alone international school, you never fly back home for holidays, you not factor in health bills you will get and i could continue another hour. The house you bought is more like a lifetime lease with interest that you not even manage to pay off in your life.

So yeah you can survive on it, thats all.

Guess that is why virtually no couples have babies anymore too except the often uneducated farmers who got pregnant by accident or later on divorce as well cant even raise their kids alone but place them with grandparents.

Not even to start about debt levels. In terms of the thais who are not ignorant, they often earn at least 20-30k each that makes 50-60k average and they just get by on it being thai.

Just being foreigner alone means you need already a realistic lifetime monthly balance of 20k alone. Else you just gamble on staying healthy aka talk nonsense.

Relax. Couples & singles still have babies in Thailand. The kids are often offloaded to their parents and/or grandparents. Been happening here for eons. Part of their DNA. Doesn't mean it is right or wrong, good or bad.🙃🙃

I view the mortgage as a long term gift for my wife and son. It's only slightly more than the rental price would be. Eight years left.

My son is in the Chinese and English class at his school, he's happy there, 4 boys, 20 girls.

My life is one big holiday, no need to fly to the UK.

Had tacos with a pal at la Casita last Friday, then beer at the Moat House rooftop bar

Went out cycling with a pal yesterday with two coffee shop stops.

Not sure what more I could expect out of life as a 70yo pensioner.

No health bills, I'm not sick.

I never said its bad to live on a budget too but many here make it sound like you can live on peanuts because they cut all possiboe corners and survive on it, while they know the thai side is likely fked if they got sick or died too early.

Yeah i could also live on the bottom and easily make it work of 50k but realism is another thing.

You sound deeply unhappy with your life in Thailand, maybe it's not the right place for you.

Don't assume everyone is as dissatisfied with their life as you

Frugality is a good thing.

Most people are living beyond their means and drowning in debt.

That looks good! I'm envious of your air fryers.
