UK Plans to Move Asylum Seekers from Hotels to Barracks

But my understanding (from admittedly right wing sources) is that the UK military is basically a shell of what it used to be.

That is what happens when a significant number of bases are closed down and sold off.

I was an RAF apprentice in the early 60s and following training there were dozens of home and overseas stations you could be posted to, now you can almost count them on your fingers.

My biggest disappointment was Hong Kong, i was posted there in Oct 1970 but cancelled at the last minute. A few months later it was announced it was going back  to the Chinese, I got Germany instead.

The do gooders will demonstrate about the infringement of there Human rights at the camps.

When they closed RAF Stradishall the accommodation had to be refurbished before it could be used as an open prison.

The accommodation had been good enough for servicemen but apparently not for convicts.

Successive governments have always had distorted priorities.

Only 1000 arrived yesterday.

There is 2 Barracks that are immediately needed.

32,000 currently in hotels. Which equates to another 64 Barracks.

Better get building or stop spewing BS?

Where were they living when they were in France? I bet it wasn't in hotels. If living in tents or containers was good enough for them in France why not the same in England? And before anybody says duty of care, that goes for France also.

But the challenge there is national sovereignty. Should the US be forced to accept anyone sent to them by another country? Nope. One of the abiding themes is control of the borders. Every country has the right to control their borders.

Recalcitrant countries in 2018. Recalcitrant here means countries that don't accept deportees back.

More countries are hardening their position. There is carrot and stick. Stick will be sanctions, declaration of war. Carrot would be sacks of cash. And this is assuming you know where a migrant comes from. And if you have a trade policy that is purposely disengaging from the world trading system, sanctions begin to lose their impact, eg North Korea.

Look at the picture closer. Remove all the migrants and illegals and there will be nobody to wash the dishes in hotels or restaurants in most European metros or to pluck grapes and tomatoes in most of the farms in Italy, Spain, France ....

The solution would be to enhance the developpment of Ai generated robots who would take over these menial jobs,

In a few years it will be standard to have robots doing these tasks in Agriculture or Hotels and Restaurants.

Perhaps, but many of these " menial jobs" particularly in agriculture and tourism are seasonal. The workers move around depending on which particular crop is ready for harvesting. The relatively short harvesting season may well make the costs of developing robots, which will stand idle much of the year, uneconomic, compared to casual seasonal labour.

Why doesn't the UK government condisider the overseas military bases?  There is Ascension Island, The Falklands and the bases on Cyprus.

That's a great. Idea.Plenty of room on the Falklands, but the sheep should be worried.

What were we doing before the thousands crossed the Channel ?

So this is just speculation. I seriously doubt the government will get the approval to relocate those illegals without resistance from them. Imagine you are there at the Hilton and being told you have to move to Tent city. Haha..

The Falklands Islands have their own Government. Cyprus: the two UK bases are UK sovereign territory but governed by treaty with the Cyprus government - UK service personnel, their families and certain categories of civilian employees are allowed to live on the bases, but not anyone else. Ascension Island is a large rock, which accommodates a US Air Force base.

500, at least, on the way today.

Better get knitting, yet another military base

😀😀😀

Stop the BS and start arresting, detaining and deporting immediately.

Nothing else is going to work.

How much do we pay the effing French to stop them coming. What a joke. The French must be laughing their heads off

There are approx 7,000 uninhabited islands around the Uk

I have been to St Kilda which is uninhabited apart from it  does contain a small MOD station on the island

Its located  35 nautical miles (65 kilometres) west-northwest of North Uist in the North Atlantic Ocean.

No need for 24/7 security as its impossible to get off the island unless to have access to a serious boat

So is the UK military going to be forced to live in tents?

Maybe the refugees can be housed in a warmer country that does not have so much fog, and other miserable weather.

  Just a suggestion.
