A crash claimed the life of a four-year-old boy after the family’s motorcycle skidded in heavy rain and the child was thrown under a lorry.

The incident occurred at around 18:00 on 6 September on Ratchaphruek Road, heading out of the city, before the Khlong Om Non bridge in Bang Krang subdistrict, Muang district, Nonthaburi. Police from Bang Sri Muang Station, together with Ruamkatanyu rescue volunteers and the Bang Krang municipal ambulance team, were dispatched to the scene. Doctors from the Institute of Forensic Science were also called to assist.

The victim, identified as Weerawat, aged four, was found deceased beside the rear right wheel of an Isuzu lorry registered in Pathum Thani. The family’s Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle was discovered lying on its side at the rear of the lorry and the boy’s helmet was nearby. His parents and relatives were seen grieving at the scene.

Preliminary reports indicate the family had been returning home from a shopping trip in the Ratchaphruek area when the incident occurred. Dashcam footage from a following vehicle captured the incident, showing the motorcycle, carrying the mother, father and child, following a car in slow-moving traffic during the rain. The motorcycle reportedly lost balance when the vehicle in front braked suddenly, causing the young boy to be thrown under the lorry’s rear wheels.

Pongsak Bunnil, a rescue worker with the Bang Krang Municipal Emergency Team, said they arrived to find the boy being lifted from beneath the lorry by his father. “At first, we thought he might still be alive, so we immediately conducted an advanced resuscitation attempt. Unfortunately, we confirmed that he had already passed away,” he said.

Police collected evidence, including the dashcam footage and questioned the lorry driver as part of their ongoing investigation.
